Bushido: Legend of the Samurai is a Multiplayer Melee Combat game set during during the turbulent feudal period of medieval Japan.
Wakizashi, pictured here with black Samegawa (Shark-Skin) and a blue silk wrapping, have been in use as far back as the 15th or 16th century. The Wakizashi was used as a backup or auxiliary sword; it was also used for close quarters fighting, to behead a defeated opponent and sometimes to commit ritual suicide. The Wakizashi is one of several short swords available for use.

Just HOW short, exactly? In comparison to the Katana, I'd assume 'short' means similar length to a Chivalry MaA mace or something.
Additionally, do you have a release date estimate? Sometime 2013, or 2014?
That would be pretty optimistic date IMO, they still need to do all the animations, coding, UI's, musics, sounds, that honour system etc.
Hope for the 2013-2014 expect 2015-2016.
The wakizashi has a blade between 30 and 60 cm (12 and 24 in)
Whereas the katana could be anywhere in between (depending on the time peroid) 60 cm (23 1⁄2 in) and 73 cm (28 1⁄2 in)
This, thanks.
We're aiming for mid-late next year.
I hope they can pull this off, everything they have showed us so far are truly amazing. These guys are really talented, it would be a real shame if the game was not finished. It must be hard to change from a mod to a standalone game, especially creating own combat system and other features. I wonder what engine they will be using.. unreal 3?
Hey thanks for the support!
We have a lot of stuff in development that we've yet to show such as the combat system and so on (that we already have a playable build for). Our regular updates are art assets purely because once they're final we'll show them.
We're now using Unity, and all of the weapons/ armors are rendered in real-time using Marmoset (the same real-time lighting engine in our game).
Cheers
Unity? You changed the engine? If I remember correctly, since it was a CMW mod, it was UE3, am I right? Why this change? :) Maybe I miss this thing on an update? I'm sorry then.
Hey, no problem! We switched to Unity as soon as we announced we're now a full game. The reason for this is our programmers have far more experience with it so we could hit the ground running. It also meant we could license Marmoset Skyshop, which I have a fair bit of experience in for the artwork.
Hey! That's pretty cool! :D I didn't know that much of Unity, I'm more of a UE guy but that don't stops me to try your awesome MO... ehhum... GAME! :D Steam Greenlight ready I presume? :3
Oh and, another thing: Is the Wakizashi the same as the Tanto? Thank you in advance. :)
will you add Nodachi?
Nodachi will be included :)
You guys sure are making some progress. At this rate, when do you think you guys will be done?
We hope to have our first proper alpha build by the end of the year!
Great stuff as always. I do hope that the Alpha and Beta will be free to test :)
