i saw that you don't want an actual crafting system, but really every survival game needs at least a basic system, like you need to be able to make a fire, or sharpen a rock as a tool, basic stone age style.

Just sayin' :)

The closest thing to crafting in Boundless will be if you use a knife to cut out a creature's stomach to use it as an inventory, or planting a seed that grows into a tree that glows in the dark and provides you with a light source. I disagree with you when you say that every survival game needs a basic crafting system, I take nothing for granted and I don't believe in design standards, at least when it comes to Boundless. Thinking outside the box is our biggest feature! :)

For example, why would you need to craft a fire? Why not have flowers that start burning when they bloom instead? Or maybe the atmosphere and oxygen concentration makes fire behave completely differently in Boundless?

Using rocks as tools was something our ancestors did a lot, but who says the world works that way in Boundless? Maybe materials much sharper and harder than rocks simply grow on extremely rare trees?

So can you pick say a harder than rock fungi off a fallen tree and use it to hit stuff with? instead of having to craft say a sword or bow you just throw a fungi or something?

I have been waiting for a developer to say these words for a while, you are a genius Buttergoose.

A "rock" could be picked up but actually be flammable and be a similar substance to jello O.o

I have read and understand what u where saying about the crafting system and i have a suggestion. Maybe there u can be able to find pieces of paper in this civilizations u where talking about that contain information about how to craft, for example a spear. Maybe there would be ancient scrolls with instructions of how to make potions(if u want something like that in the game) or how to combine items to get some special powers, like have written before of a mushroom that can make u able to hover above the ground there might be another mushroom that can make u move really quickly(still this is just something that i came up with) and if u combine this 2 mushrooms u can hover extra quickly.

still this is ur game and i dont know exactly what u want in the game, but this where some ideas i had ;)

Good ideas =) It's always good to get feedbaack and ideas, we are only human, so we miss things ;)

We still haven't come that far into development, we might notice that we are in need of a crafting system for the game to work, but first, we are going to get there and see how the game plays =) This far we just barely have the inventory system ready

well surely if you go to a planet you know nothing about you would not know what the symbols mean on the piece of paper and maybe you need to find some sort of translator or maybe learn how to speak the native language or even a creature that you tame that can read and and then show you what it says.

This is still, kind of crafting, and I'd rather leave ancient spears and potions in chests, caves and ruins. :)

Cool. what if we called it "combining"? No crafting, but combining items in a simple fashion? lol, im just messing with you.

but just to clarify;

Crafting as defined by a google search: "Use skill in making
(something): 'he crafted the chair'; 'a beautifully crafted object'."

So we will literally not be making ANYTHING in this game? under no
circumstances will any two object become one from the actions of the
character we play as in this game whatsoever?

It just seems to me that the developers are trying for an open-minded approach so hard they have gone full 360 degrees back into close mindedness

At first I just want to precise that I'm very peacefull while I'm writing this post ;)

If you take 2 items to make another one, it is assimilated to crafting.
Combining is not crafting int the litteral meaning, but it is kind of crafting, and the development team doesn't want any kind of crafting.
If that can help, maybe the creature the player will impersonate will not have hands that can allow him to craft (or combine) anything.

From my point of view, I am also sad that there won't be crafting system.
But on the other hand, you will have to find differently, rather than collect every crafting material, you will have to imagine how to use every items that developers will give us.

I don't think it is very usefull to talk about the absence of crafting system.
But there are still things to think about, and give ideas about! =)

I know that crafting and combining is only a systematical difference where only the connotation is different between the two. That was the point of my joke. But that was a joke and was only a lead into my clarifying question... I appreciate being peaceful, thats awesome. But why be passive aggressive? The structure and point of my post is very clear, and I even mentioned I was joking in the same sentence. Your post seems to be trying to be a rebuttle of my... question...

Maybe I didn't clarify; my question was regarding the developers specific opinion about the definition quoted. My last line of that post however was most definitely rude. I don't understand why I needed to add that, and I apologize to the developers.
