2007 was a great year for Alien Arena, but this is a new year, and a new series is born - Alien Arena 2008! In one week, the new version will be released with what is for the most part a complete overhaul and update of the core game. Every player model has been replaced, nearly every weapon model, and nearly one half of the arenas. Sixteen new maps in total to be exact!
The client has a number of new enhancements, features, and optimizations, that not only have enhanced the visual quality, but increased performance dramatically, as well using fewer resources. Existing features such as normalmapping have been dramatically improved, and made to run much faster. Greater detail was now possible in maps, models and skins, and yet overall performance is still up over 30% from the final release of Alien Arena 2007.
Weapon balance has been tweaked, re-tweaked, and re-tweaked again with tremendous input from the community as well as outsiders. We believe we have achieved a perfect balance that will appeal to new players as well as experts. New gameplay features such as disruptor jumping, and a special dodging move have been added to enhance the experience and give players new tricks to learn.
One of the more signifigant changes in Alien Arena 2008 is the overall theme and style. Imagine retro sci-fi reborn in a futuristic era, with slick, tech-inspired designs merged with classic bubble-headed aliens and cycloptic robots for a marriage that is a little less on camp, and darker than versions past. It's still Alien Arena all right, but the tone is a bit more sadistic and savage.
Alien Arena 2008 will be released for Windows, Linux, and yes, a Mac port is nearly completed as well. For the first time, Alien Arena will be able to run on OSX! To get you ready, nine new screenshots and a video have been released showcasing a portion of the new content and game!
