Alien Arena is a standalone game based off of the id Tech2 source that combines a sci-fi atmosphere with the tournament style deathmatch of Q3A and UT2k4. With major graphical enhancements such as GLSL per-pixel lighting, hi-res textures, light blooms, real time lights and shadows,  textured particles, shaders, and reflective water, Alien Arena brings the Quake II engine into modern gaming. The game also includes mutators, adjustable effects, bot skill settings, and fully configurable deathmatch, team deathmatch, CTF, All Out Assault, Team Core Assault, Cattle Prod, and Deathball games.

The game features original artwork, with with a dark sinister atmosphere combined with an off-the-wall campiness, and trippy, techno type music. There are currently over 60 maps, loaded with weapons(each having an alternate firing mode) and powerups.

Alien Arena has fast, smooth gameplay, and players can play online against one another or against the bots, which feature multiple skill levels, and will rocket jump, strafe jump, and taunt you mercilessly.

Yes, it's only been a couple of weeks, but a critical bug when using Nvidia 191.xx drivers has forced us to put out a new release much sooner than anticipated.  Despite the frantic moments, we also were able to squeeze in a few new features, as well as a new level!  Also, it should be important to note, that because of some compatibility issues, we removed the automatic video settings on first run, and have reverted back to defaulting the game to medium settings out of the box.  Players should be advised that the game will likely run just fine on a mid-range or better system if you enable higher graphical settings.

Features added for 7.32 include:

  • Fixed critical bug when using Nvidia 191.xx drivers
  • Dynamic world shadows using shadowmaps
  • New map, dm-zion2k9
  • Splash damage now triggers hit indicator sound
  • New spawn effects

Here is a peak at the new map, Zion2k9!

Future work for Alien Arena will continue, as we have begun work on improving our antilag code and some other gameplay related items, as well as some items that for now remain a little more clandestine.  Our next release will be targeted to occur some time in the winter or spring of 2010.  So for now, grab 7.32 and enjoy!

Has anyone had a weird error where, after installing the game, playing it then logging of and then on again a bat file, that's part of the uninstall process, is activated which wipes the Alien Area directory?

Nope, never saw that happen. Did you mistakenly click on "wipedir.exe"? I don't know how it could activate unless it was clicked on.

Already working on 7.32, and some cool stuff coming along. The dm-zion remake is finished and in SVN, and did some stuff with the spawn effects. Splash damage now trips the hit indicator sound, and I've got shadomaps working for dynamic world shadows in GLSL :D

What error do you get? You probably need to update your video drivers from the manufacturer's site.

The server browser opens fine but when i join a server my screen flashes black(same thing for quick launch). My drivers are up to date.
