...being away from the forums for a month (previously have been on and off over the past few months as some of you would know from me not being around much) - and then i come back to find that there's a whole admin warefare going on surrounding spam. and it seemed that at the center of it all, was my wuggawoo thread. AND while i'll admit it was just a silly spam by me in the first place - it did however, eventually grow into what I, and others, believed to be one of very few 'main threads' for the General Banter section of the whole modDB forum. what do i mean by main thread? a thread that everyone can post on about whatever they want that doesnt require NEW threads to continuously pop up and push all the other threads down the page a lot faster than before - to me, THAT is the spam issue. and in truth, my wuggawoo thread had prevented that from happening. I have seen many (and i mean MANY) other forum communities that have been plagued by this problem, where at least 2 pages worth of threads are created PER DAY - and the forum is just so hard to follow it eventually became so gay that no-one went there anymore and eventually became dead and boring. is that what you want the modDB forums to become, after all the hrs of hard work that has gone into the whole creation of the forums in itself (esp by scott coding it all up from scratch virtually?). isnt the whole idea of this site to be 'run by the community'? isnt that the whole difference of this site compared to other gaming sites? wat is the community? u'll find it in the forums - and in all fairness, i believe that ideal has been undermined by this whole issue. perhaps it would have been better off had the actions that were taken have been discussed with ALL moderators BEFORE they were actually done? i mean honestly Greg - i think it was still a hasty decision. And im not having a big swipe at you - you're a good bloke at heart i know that from speaking to you and Mikey for the past 2 years or wateva (EHEHE asl? 2 dolla sucky sucky? :smoker: 50 sen extra luv u long time? ) - but i just think the actions should have been discussed before they were taken - I am a moderator here too and I have always cherished these forums and the community here, whether or not i visit here often nowdays, i still always respect the work that scott has done and the money that Greg foots out for the site. But the community has been dealt a bit of a slap in the face to say the least with regard to the whole forum nazi approach to this particular issue. and yeah i hear some members here trying to take the 'cool' approach with posts like "people will live" and all that blah blah blah - but the bottom line is - the actions that have been taken against the wuggawoo thread and other main threads that were created have perhaps just about made certain that new spam threads will pop up on a more regular basis as there is no main thread to post at - either that and/or nothing will be posted at all because the forums suddenly have become dead and pointless (which i stressed earlier that i had seen in many other once-popular forums previously). it mite happen, it mite not happen - i guess only time will tell and hopefully you will learn from that.
yeah - funny that about the little contradiction there with regard to the whole anti-spam approach PS - why have i suddenly come back and put up such a large post? i've had a bad day (you can ask scotty about it). and ALSO i know there's two things on this forum that i've noticed - and that is people like to bitch and whinge - so bitch and whinge away --

i did warn azz0r on four occasions over this.. i moved it to the spam section, and it was moved back. i also believe i told you on ICQ that i was closing the thread.. and then azz0r reopened it again. -- Greg |

I think snaZZy has a bit more of a broad point here than just the matter of you vs. azz0r, Greg. He's just explaining his prophecy for the forums and what he feels their true purpose is. This is a gaming site, and the forums have sections to cater to every want, desire, and problem that anyone might ever need. And then there's General Banter - the miscellaneous section. People that come here for serious reasons are 100% of the time oriented around mods or gaming, and they take it to those sections. The General Banter area is for the regulars to goof off in and "talk about absolutely nothing". Why then, is that not allowed? I believe that is the matter at hand, moreso than the dispute between yourself and azz0r. |

Right! I havent been here long, since feb. I dont want to get involved in your argument, but I think everyone will miss azz0r, and I just want to say- General banter is labelled as General Banter. |
