X-box Thread

I have heard a couple of people saying that microsoft is lossing money on the X-box. Is that true because to me that doese not seam rightsince X-box is the bigest console around here. doese any one know any thing about it. and may posibly have an artical on it. (it may have been in the news but i normaly dont like paying a tention to it since there is so many sad things happening.)

Well you gotta look at it this way... Xbox is owned by Microsoft, one of the biggest (if not the biggest) companies in the world. Trust me you don't have to worry about the Xbox losing funding, there is plenty of money to pour into it. Though I would reccommend some developers start making better games... it seems Xbox is surviving almost entirely off of the Halo series, which I dont even know how thats possible...

Yes they lose money, the xbox costs more to make then they sell it for. Microsoft only manufactures the xbox to get in on tthe console gaming market. Though it seems stupid, the more markets they can control, the more money they make. However on they xbox itself they lose money.

Its not that I am worried about that it just that it seams strange that X-box seams very big how could they be loosing money of of it.

What Gunrunner said... the are charging less for it than it costs to make it.... so ultimately the only reason Xbox is there is just to be in the console market it is not meant to make money at all

They're trying to get the money back with the games though. Thats their plan, dunno if it works, prolly would with Halo 2 though.

i dont tink one game will do that. asumming that what i herd is correct and they are lossing $100 per cosole they sell.

I like game cube the best too especially mario kart. I am so good at that game. I can beat every one at it. at least in the racing part of it. Not the battle modes those I stink at. the only person who can give me a challenge is my sister who plays it 10x more often then I do.(she plays it all the time with her friends.) down side is no one likes to play against me since i win all the time.

The Xbox Next is supposed to be cheaper to make, although with the rumor of three versions being released, I think they'll be going for a wider market, so they'll probably be getting a lot more money this time around. The next system is going to be the most technically powerful console you've ever seen, so it'll be a sight to see when those units sell like hot cakes. You'll have to stand in line the day before it's release in the morning just to have a chance of getting an Xbox Next, just like the Sony PSP.

I'm all for the Revolution, though! Here's to hoping Nintendo finally accepts online gameplay and starts making it a part of their lineup. I'm getting tired of only playing Phantasy Star Online

Microsoft makes no profit off the console itself. Their money comes from peripherals, Xbox Live (some), and from games. Halo is considered a third party title because of Bungie, but Microsoft had a lot to do with the game's funding and development/publishing. They took a massive cut from the profits, as they have with other titles.

They use money from Xbox Live to pay server costs that they foot the bill for. Playstation 2 has free online play because game developers that want to have online content must provide servers themselves, leaving no upkeep for Sony to manage. Microsoft provides all their own servers which can get expensive.

I am well aware of Warp Pipe and its online service, but I'm talking about a legitimate online program by Nintendo in use for their system with a wide number of different games that support it. There's only half a dozen games on Warp Pipe, and only a couple games on Nintendo with online play. They need to realise sooner and later that Xbox and Sony have become very successful due in a large part to online gaming. Most people would rather play against other human characters than the computer. Sure, Nintendo makes plenty of party-based games when you're sitting playing a 4-player game with other people next to you, but I'd rather go online and face someone from halfway across the world when my friends are busy with other things.

It needs to be done in order for Nintendo to survive. They need to stop being so old school, and start embracing the new ways of doing things. Sure, they're all about innovative new ways of playing games, but why don't they first just add online gameplay first? That would definitely help them out.

as said erlier its not the system itself its the games and Xbox live it tries to make money off of you on.. besides bill gates could loose 100 k a day and still be rich...(likely but not certin) till the day he dies... unless he develops a suspended animation way to keep himself alive.. good god he could live to 600... noooooooooooo

Hmmm well... one thing you can do with your XBOX, you can mod it and stuff. Put in HD's, and mod chips, and new graphic cards (nvidia associated only). Pretty cool. Takes alot of soldering though :-/. But yeah man, get XBOX and hook it up. Creates its own FTP Server, *backup* games. Its crazy. I love it. You all need to get into that ... i recommend having 2 xboxes though, you dont want to go on XBL with a modchip installed, or MS is going to ban you permanently... i think by MAC Address of your XBOX, so you have to buy another one...

Errr.. im not talking about warez dude... im saying what you can do with it... so its like saying this on the forums "Hey, did you know on Computers, you can download illegal stuff?"... no harm done... If i was talking about warez, id tell u guys where to *backup* games and stuff, but THAT would be talking about warez..

stupidly enough, mod chips and xbox hacks are illegal. we pay $150-200 and we can't even customize it legally...

k david, go out, program your os, get a bunch of people who will pay for it, oh yeah, did i mention you've got to spend a year or 2 developing a system for people to put it on?

its no biggy if some people tear away everything you've worked for and "customize" it to steal games that you rent.

modding xbox's is illegal for a reason, a good one that that.
