my purpose was to gather what other ppl think, but i am of the opinion that it may have been possible for some freak event to have started life somehow. i jus dont like the idea that someone else is out there, more infinitely powerful than myself, and if he is out there, whered he come from? -- ___________________________

Did the world really have a beginning? If it did, what happened before its beginning? Anywho, to answer the topic, I think that for complex life to start you definitely need a bit of luck and the odds of it are really, really, really small. However, look at the sheer size of the universe...does it have an end? I think, even though the possibilities of complex life are tiny, there has to be more of it out there somewhere, it's just so huge and vast and unpredictable. There are many theories about life on earth and how it started. Many people believe many different things. Whether it's true, no one really knows for sure. The theory I guess I believe is that an asteroid impacted the earth and it had some sort of life forms on it. These life forms originally were developing in the oceans, then, as time went on, moved onto land and to where we are today. It's an amazing journey, I wonder how it will all end... ok, just to add a twist to this discussion (it is prolly something stupid) but hell i don't quite know what to add to this... anyhow, what if we are not living, but just a dream... or matrix styles? does that make us real? what makes us real? the fact that we have emotions.. feelings, senses which something we consider 'non-real' such as a robot does not posses... what if we make a robot that posseses such qualities? does that make it real.. and well what if we are such a creation made by someone else? a robot with feelings.. i dunno what i am quite trying to say here.. but when i thought it up, it sounded good -- Scott Reismanis |

EXACTLY!! We could damn well be and we wouldn't ever know, until they wanted us to find out. I mean think about this. What if our world, our universe as we know it was simply in some other superiour life-forms petri-dish? What if they were just experimenting with us, seeing what we will do. I mean it could well be the truth. I, however, think that's all bulls**t, but you never know, we can't exactly prove that it ain't happening. I mean what I'm talking about is exactly the thing that's in The Simpsons - when Lisa created that experiment in a petri-dish and this other life-forms are created. I think it happened cos Bart electricuted her tooth or something...not sure. Anywho...they attack Bart and stuff... So yeah, it could be what we are living in. What happens when we discover the boundary of this petri-dish...if we ever do? Will these people kill us off or what? Aaaaaaah, the universe, you gotta love it's largeness. It's friggen huge and I doubt we'll ever find out what's beyong it and whether it does have boundaries. We got a long road ahead, but I feel our road will end way, way, way...wwaaaaaayy before the road of the entire universe. We are so insignificant compared to the entire universe that it's not even worth talking about. We are microscopic on a large scale...non-existant almost. The questions I have...all unanswerable by us humans...such a wonderful and mysterious place this universe is, you gotta love it. Greg EDIT: I wanna buy myself a telescope to watch the night sky and get a closer look at what is out there. If anyone has any experience with this, can you PM me (so as not to disturb this wonderful thread) and I'll chat to you. I basically wanna know what telescope to go for - whether it's really better to go for a friggen pricey one. -- "I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones." - Albert Einstein |

It is my belief... *me watches people leave the room... ...that humans/life/the universe/everyhting were neither created nor random, but random style events were 'guided' by something, call it a God. |

it is possible and HUGLY likely exists elsewhere you mean considering there is 50billion starts in our galaxy... and there is prolly a couple billion galaxys with 50 billion stars in there galaxys we are just one little planet beside one of these 50 billion stars -- Nothing. |

Well, I mean unlikely for each location. It is collectively likely, but I don't think it's very likely we'll meet them any time soon. -- THE modDB Delawarian Me ---> :de::paranoid: <--- Ronald McDonald |
