probably a dumb question bu ti dont really belive in a dumb question, only way we learn is by asking. Anyhow where would i go to play a mod, like what do i have to do what are some servers or downloads i need and so forth

First thing you'll need is the game the mod is for.
You can download almost every released mod from its website, which is linked to in profiles here.
Most big mods have servers, for some you may just have to play with a friend or set something up with someone.
And for single player mods, you obviously don't need a server.

Hope that helps, :D

Ok cool thanks, Having just found about about MOds on friday, i thought it was people actually re writing the code, i was not aware that i actually needed the game in order to play the mod(wow i feel like a total noob cause i am) Looks like i will have to go buy a game that has a mod for it and give it a try.
thanks

Like you said, the only way to learn is by asking. I was only a few years ago asking the same sorts of questions about mods, but didn't know about modDB at the time, and probably made a much greater fool of myself than you did (not to imply that you did at all), by asking at tons of random forums.. Yeah, if you are interested in playing mods, I'd recommend buying Half-Life first of all. It's by far the most modded game, with literally hundreds of released total conversions, and easily twenty times as many minor conversions.

Once you have Half-Life, here are some particularly entertaining mods to check out: Counter-Strike and Day of Defeat (both of which you can actually buy in stores now), The Specialists, Natural Selection, Wizard Wars, Poke646, Sands of War, etc. Just browse this site a bit to find some mods that sound entertaining. There are even some standalone mods here, most notably the Goldeneye mod, powered by the Doom II engine.

In any case, welcome to ModDB :)

Thanks your explanations rule. Im hoping once i get my recording console bck from the shop, and purchase a portable rig to start recording some sounds to submit to people on here to use in there mods. Im not sure what kinda format mod builders like for there sound files, but when i get to that point or if someone is interested in working with me i can figure that out.

thanks again
Mike
