What subject do you find the most unsettling and fascinating? Thread

I’m not somebody who plans on barricading myself into my basement with canned foods and water, but as a game designer always on the hunt for a neat setting/scenario for a future mod/game (and I’m sure having an insatiable imagination doesn’t help), but I can’t help myself from getting drawn into modern conspiracy theories and fiction sometimes. It’s kind of a guilty pleasure, as I know most of it is rubbish. But occasionally, I do come across some topics that are very fascinating to me, for example, the “Ancient Astronaut” theory that proclaims ancient literature and writings of “Gods” are actually extraterrestrials who visited ancient man. What topics, either fact or fiction in your eyes, fascinate you?
