I'm new here so sorry if this is in the wrong part of the forum.

I have been looking over the site at the 'Engines' and 'Games' areas and have found some awesome things. I myself am a Modder for the Source Engine [only started a few months ago] but have been making basic games in Flash CS3 and Game Maker for some time now. I know Game Maker is classed as a game engine here on ModDB but I was wanting to know if anyone could tell me about Flash.

Is Flash classed as a game engine and can games made in Flash be uploaded to ModDB and classed as Indie games? Not only that but does anyone happen to know what the rules are for say, if you wanted to sell your game and make money off it but keep it in the Flash .swf format? Would I need to change it to an .exe or something?

The reason I ask is because i start college shortly and I'm taking a games design course on which the first year is all about 2D games in both Flash and Game Maker and I'm wanting to upload my work as it comes so i can get more feedback on how to improve my work.

Thanks a lot for your time and help people :)

You are free to upload the swf files in say a rar or a zip file, im not sure if the format is supported outright atm. As for selling the files that would have to be done outside of ModDB you are free to promote them here but we wont have anything to do with the actual transaction.

Yeah i know that ModBD have nothing to do with the whole selling thing and to be fair, i have no aim to sell, i was more so just thinking thats all.

So what you say means that i'm free to make a game in Flash, upload in in a .Zip or such to be downloaded and played through ModDB but i'm not allowed to sell. Sound cool to me thanks a lot for that.

Just thinking, on the games info would i put the Engine as custom built?

Thanks again.
