Hello. My name is Zack Reese, the co-leader and co-founder of Oblivion Inc., and I am working on a Half-Life 2 modification. It is a single player (soon to be sin/mult) sci-fi game called "The Masamune Project." Here is a description of the game ------------------------------------------------------------- “The Masamune Project” takes place in the far future. The aliens control the galaxy, and Earth is virtually nonexistent after a gargantuan meteor rocked its surface and threw it into oblivion. Space Stations have been set up for the remaining humans who had escaped to Mars before the explosion occurred, but they have been enslaved by the inhabitant aliens living on the red planet. Word has broken among the elder aliens that there was a tale of a magnificent weapon that gave the wielder control of the universe with it in their hands. The ancients had once granted it to the first human, who they considered a god. Things took a turn for the worse when the man abused his newly established power, destroying any planet that challenged his command. Soon, all of the mutants banded together to overthrow this deviant, but before they could, the man used all of the power in his command to utterly tear apart the universe, therefore causing the chain of events that started the Big Bang. You take the role as one of many young hopefuls who are out to find that hidden treasure that is Masamune, the ultramodern samurai Katsuhiro Yamaguchi. You appear on the planet Mokta where the weapon is rumored to be, only to find out the planet is the size of a Super Gas Giant. You must comb through every hole and every grain of dirt to find this ancient treasure and call it your own, to wield the power of the gods. Along the way, you will meet friends that will help you and enemies that will try to stop you from this adventure. --------------------------------------------------------------- The game is currently in development. We are working on plenty of concept art as we get ready for the SDK to get released. If that doesn't happen, though, and it gets delayed for a year or whatever, we might consider switching engines. For now, though, let's keep our hopes up people! I don't think Valve should have any more problems going gold and the game should be released this Fall. We don't really want to reveal too much concept art (still working on it), but we will give you a little teaser. It is a pretty kickass plasma knife made by our artist, Anthony Cruz. It's pretty amazing on his skill and crafting with this thing: Please post your thoughts and suggestions on this mod idea below. We are always open for c&c from the public, as well as ideas for how to make the game better. But please, be serious. I don't want any trollers any here To learn more, you can also ask for information at our website, www.projectmasamune.com . Our flash site is currently under construction, but you may visit our forums. It'd be awesome to have a community to chat with about the game -- "He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster." |

How many official masamune threads are there now? |

I know. I was really amazed at him doing that. He was just our concept artist before my co-leader showed me this. I was really blown away. I'll have to get the poly count, although I'm pretty sure he just used a high-rez texture to make it look so pretty -- "He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster." |

This is the only official thread for this mod. The last two were based off of the other mods I had before. If you check my profile, I'm sure you'll realise that the mod has changed twice. I'm really happy with the mod we have now, and my team members are ready and willing to really commit to this project. It's going to be a lot of fun to help it grow Plus, it's one of the few original HL2 mods. -- "He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster." |

Well, we just liked the name Masamune, and thought we could use it some way. It's our own original story, however. -- "He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster." |

So Masamune's an original name? I thought when you first started posting about it, it was an anime series or something. Oh well. Plasma knife looks awesome! |

It's an original game, but the meaning of Masamune isn't a sword. You'll have to figure out what it truly is once we release the game. lol -- "He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster." |

Here's some new concept work. It's our logo and a 2d sword our concept artist, Cruz, made. Enjoy!

Well, that'd be the regular state of the weapon. We might be making it where you earn points from combos and for each monster kill, sort of an RPG element, and you have the option of increasing strength, speed, special skills of the weapon, etc, ala Onimusha. We might include more than just that weapon as well, like a scythe, hammer, etc. You could also switch weapons on the fly, like, slice the enemy horizontally with your sword; switch to your hammer and slam the monster in the stomach; switch to scythe, do a diagonal slash; switch to Rig device and grapple onto them, picking them up and slamming them onto the ground, all in a matter of seconds. Of course, this is still be working on, and is under question if this will be included. More information to come soon, and thanks for posting the comment on here. heh - Edited By Karuto On Thu 19th, Aug 2004 @ 9:17:18am -- "He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster." |

Well, we're trying to stick to our own ideas and make it one of the most original mods in the Modding community. We don't have that much influence from Onimisha, seeing as how we don't know if we'll even incorporate the weapon levelling-up system. We're still working out the kinks, but by the time we really get things going, you'll be able to see where we're going with the mod -- "He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster." |

It seems that we have lost our concept artist due to schedule problems. We are in need of a new concept artist and a player modeller for our mod! We're a fun, nice bunch of people who are willing to listen to your ideas. Also, as a concept artist, you have the freedom to direct the art of our mod (not anime, though, since this is going for a more realistic approach). If you're interested, please send me an email at princemalcolm@msn.com . We need you to make this mod successful! Thank you very much. -- "He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster." |

I see the name "Masamune" and automatically think Shirow Masamune. What will be the overall effect? It is a origanl concept yes but will you be attempting to go with a Masamune artstyle? or your own independent style? Or This in actuality?

It has nothing to do with the actual person, Shirow Masamune, but to just use the name as some fabled treasure. The style is truly up to the concept artist's, but we want to stay away from anime, since we want this to look more realistic. -- "He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster." |

It is because I don't trust my artistic ability enough to put it into mod format. I am willing to contribute, but I don't think I can lead If you know anybody good enough, Stuff, it'd be great to see their artistic ability (although, not something on the level of you mod, with all due respect. lol) -- "He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster." |

you don't trust your own artistc ability? Why not??? I have and if poeple don't like it then offer a spot to them saying thats fine show me what you have that could be related if you're better than be kudos the psot is yours if you want it but do in a tactful manner. I love sketching or at least attempting to sketch out the ideas for my mod. I also of course love seeing submissions for other artists viewpoints on the charater side or vehicle or heck even Urban side of things. It should always be a welcomed and rare pleasure to see someone take enough of a interest to show and share thier views with your mod and give constructive crits when it comes down to it. Just my 2 cents. --

Well, that's why we are in much more need of a player modeller than a concept artist. We do have a CA, just no PM. If anyone is interested, please email me -- "He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster." |
