“At the dawn of the Millennium, Japan collapsed. At 15% unemployment, 10 million were out of work, 800,000 students boycotted school. The adults lost confidence, and fearing the youth, eventually passed the 'Millennium Educational Reform Act'...AKA: The BR Act.”

Battle Royale tells the story of a despotic future in which each year, a randomly-selected 9th grade class is kidnapped and sent to a deserted island where they are equipped with weapons and are forced to kill each other until one survivor is left. The movie, which premiered in Japan on December 16, 2000 amidst much controversy, is based on a bestselling novel by Koushun Takami.

Battle Royale: Project Masamune puts a new twist onto the story by growing the characters up and taking them off the island. The players will be able to choose from 10 different people, who all have a dark background. They were thrown into a mental institution, for the government was afraid of them and the chaos they could unleash if they were left unnoticed. Once the number started growing, they feared the worse, and decided to pass the ‘Millennium Reform Act’, which took a group of these psychotic individuals and placed them in barricaded areas where they’d be forced to fight to the death, or be blown to smithereens by the bombs wrapped around their necks. Equipped with totally random weapons, players must duke it out in variations of Deathmatch until they are the last man/woman standing.

All of the actual gameplay consists of the player trying to kill his opponents as quick as possible before being killed himself. However, new modes of play will be implemented to change the feel of the game. The gamer must use strategy on how to quickly and accurately take out a target using the weapon he has chosen with being locked in a corner or getting attacked from behind. The gamer will have a choice between 10 different characters. They will begin each round with a random weapon, whether it’s a shotgun, rocket launcher, pistol, or a knife, hatchet, fork, machete, and a baseball bat. We will start off with guns first and then implement new weapons from there. Players will score points by killing other enemies.

An innovative new gameplay feature that we hope to include is the Friendship System. You will be able to gain friends and enemies in the battlefield, according to the decisions you make. Let’s say, you run up to two people facing off melee-style next to each other. You decide to help one of them by shooting the other with your shotgun. The guy you help gives both of you friendship points. The guy you hit gives you hatred points towards each other. The more you help that one person, the less damage you do to them, and the more times you kill that other guy, the more damage you inflict to them. However, if either of them happen to disconnect (or leave and comeback), that person becomes neutral to you once again. If you end up accidentally shooting your friend, you lose friendship points, and start to creep back into neutral status with them. This adds a unique sense of strategy, where you have to choose your friends wisely, for you need their help in order to survive every round.

Each of the characters, like in the movie, are going to have small bombs wrapped around their necks (they almost look like necklaces). When a person is killed in regular combat, they are teleported an X number of meters away. Their screen becomes blurry and shift to dark shades of grey, to silver, black, back to silver, etc. They have so many seconds before they can run to either the person that killed them or a group of people before your bomb detonates, causing much damage to your enemies (About the same as a well-placed HE grenade in CS, for example). This throws in little more of that strategy I was mentioning before. This allows the character to get vengeance for cheap kills or to dismantle their enemies. Of course, we will also take into recognition the possibility that someone will just die just so he can blow up his friend, but with the added effects of the screen changes, it shouldn't be that easy.

We are, I believe, done with the concept and design of the mod, and are now moving on to making a full flash site, which should take a month to do (really complex stuff). We have currently thrown up a splash page at our www.projectmasamune.com domain, so you can bookmark that page if you want to keep updated about the mod :D

We are currently looking for a number of team members to join our mod. We need a few mappers and a coder. Of course, it's not limited to that, so if you can do anything else, please send me an email at princemalcolm@msn.com , or post below.

Thank you very much, and if you want to learn more, please visit our forums. We really want to start getting them active, so please register.

Thanks. I drew it myself, surprisingly enough. Sadly, it might be the only thing I can really contribute in the deep mod development stages. haha

Yup, you're right.

Bah, all you got to do is learn, man! I mean, that's all I can really contribute. After that, I'm mod leader, PR, webmaster, storyline.... but I'm trying to learn to do something to contribute. We only have one mapper, and he hasn't kept in contact with me, so I'm trying to do that.

By the way, if anyone can map, we need you! lol

Once again, double post.

Guys, we are really in desperate need of more team members. We do not have real contact with our concept artists, our mapper, and our other animator. We really need to find more people to keep this project going. If you can contribute, even a little, to this mod, than that would be great! We are having a really tough time, since me and my friend are the only ones in contact with each other. It's getting depressing when things like this happen. So, please, if you can help us out in any way, we would really gladly appreciate it. We can't offer money, but if you want anything else, please name it and we'll definitely consider it. Please help us make this mod project a reality, because we are really determined to make it happen.

Yeah, well, it helped solve the problem of copyright issues. Of course, it's not licensed in America, but I wanted something cool. Sorry I didn't deliver guys, but there are other people working on it ^^

Project Masamune? How the hell does that relate to the storyline? That's what he means.

The lead character's name was Masamune and he was going to be the focal point in the story.

It doesn't matter now, anyway, since the mod has been dropped for a much better now. We already have a coder, sound tech, concept artist, and mapper, which is a lot more than what we had with this mod.
