"No one would have believed, in the last years of the 19th century, that human affairs were being watched from the timeless worlds of space. No one could have dreamed we were being scrutinized as someone with a microscope studies creatures that swarm and multiply in a drop of water. Few men even considered the possibility of life on other planets, and yet, across the gulf of space, minds immeasurably superior to ours regarded this earth with envious eyes, and slowly and surely, they drew their plans against us."

I have an idea for a possible mod for Empire at War: Forces of Corruption based on the legendary War of the Worlds franchise, which originated with the story by H.G. Wells. This mod would mostly be centered around Jeff Wayne's musical adaptation, but would encompass other adaptations, including the 1938 radio play, the 1953 movie, and the Spielberg and Asylum adaptations from 2005.

The four game modes--campaign, conquest, skirmish, and multiplayer--would each have three playable factions. You would have the humans and the martians, of course, but for the Consortium aspect of the game you would get to play as a criminal kingpin in 19th century London who forges an alliance with a corrupt and power-hungry group of martians for control of both human and martian societies. The map in campaign and conquest would be changed to a map of Earth, and the objective would be to conquer or corrupt region after region until Earth falls to your faction.

Each faction has their own strengths and weaknesses. The humans are far less superior in technology to the martians, but they can build units faster and use strength in numbers to overwhelm them, as well as steal martian technology to upgrade to the next tech level. The martians can upgrade their tech by use of a research facility and their technology is incredibly powerful, but at the same time they are slow to build units and there are some environments that are extremely hazardous to them, such as a swamp or any place where particularly nasty bacteria can flourish and slowly kill off their infantry. The criminal human/martian alliance can buy new technology off of human and martian black markets that they establish in different regions. Their fighting style is based around corruption of different regions and espionage tactics rather than physical combat. The alliance martians have an immunity to germs thanks to the research done by their human allies, but their technology is less sophisticated because as criminals they must obtain it by less sophisticated means.

The technology from other parallel versions of the story is obtained through temporal rifts that are popping up all over the planet and allow different human and martian societies from different eras and universes to connect to one another. The humans can gain more modern and effective technology from their new allies, and the martians can obtain different types of vehicles and fighting machines that have different strengths and weaknesses.

I would like to know what you all think of this idea and any suggestions you might have.
