I vote hire a guy. A lot of guys, like myself, are students trying to get experience and credits and will work very hard in their free time for very little money, whereas you can spend hours and hours sifting through free libraries trying to find good sounds, or spend money on a library you may or may not use again, that the guy you didn't hire probably owns. These thoughts are a lot like what's in Impressions blog post, which is awesome by the way!

Thanks bassmon, although that's for the developers to go and decide, we are kinda bribed ;)
hopefully more developers will come to read this since its everyone's gain.

There is a related stackexchange page people might be interested in here.

It also depends on the sounds themselves. Arcade sounds are rather easy to create yourself, there are even free programs like the great (and FREE) SFXR that can create arcade sounds in just a few clicks.

I've mentioned that fact too in the blog TenciousXL, but I've also mentioned what happens when you compare it with a guy who does it for a living ;) and its also a good way of getting the basics to know how's things on the "other side".
