Should I become a server to plaY GoldenEye: Source? Thread

I have not used Source before, I don't normally even use a PC but my Mac' broken right now, but I have an old one. The 4.2 release of GoldenEye: Source was something I really wanted to play and not I can, however it never seems to connect to a server and I'm wondering if I should become a server myself?

It's a purely multiplayer game right now and I'm not sure if it's possible to play just to test, which for me would be the same as playing? I just want to try it, I know I don't have the kind of gaming system to squeeze the performance desired from it so probably cannot host as a server normally, but would this be the best route in order to actually play a game? Thanks.
