We have completed a design for a major evolution of hand-to-hand combat mechanics in video-games. Our system achieves intuitive control and tactical depth in unprecedented ways by taking an animation-focussed approach to ensure realism. Now we need a programmer to help this design become a reality.

Who We Are
We are a small but growing team. Our two gameplay designers each have over a decade of experience in Japanese and medieval European martial arts. Our modeller has produced a range of assets for modding projects, and our animator is the maker of Combat Animation Enhancement, an animations overhaul for Mount & Blade: Warband, parts of which are used in the extremely popular cRPG and Persistent World mods.

Our Goal
Our first objective is to develop a pared-down, playable prototype, featuring one of a number of planned weapon types, with a public testing release to follow if necessary. From there, we will proceed with implementing additional weapons and mechanics for our first fully-fledged game project.

Features for Stage 1 of Development (animations and other necessary assets complete):
• Four combat-appropriate directional walk cycles (will be implemented by animator)
• Ability to cycle through four fighting stances on button press (animations ready, programmer required)

Who We Need
Now that we have our design in place, and the necessary skills to produce the required models and animation assets, we need a programmer capable of implementing our design. Prior experience is beneficial but not required. The core of the design is a simple set of animation selection rules, and we will also need our programmer to implement the robust melee weapon system that has been planned.

Limitations of Version 3.5.3 of the CryEngine 3 Free SDK
Our work is based on the CryEngine 3 SDK, so, due to the lack of source code access in the latest release of the Free SDK, we have two major options for how to spend our time before the next release (which will restore code access). The first is to acquaint any new programmer/s with our system, giving them a detailed knowledge and allowing them to consider possible implementation approaches. The other is to base our work on the most recent previous version of the SDK which included code access. We will happily discuss these options with any applicant.

Thanks, figalot! I hope you'll be up for testing of some of the early versions :)

We've just updated the original post with a new proof of concept video :)
