Racism on MTV Thread

Bejesus, I've been watching MTV for the last 3 hours and I'm 100% peed off.

First a white group/person video contains white, black, hispanic and latin races.

However whenever theres a black group/person video there is only black people in the video, and maybe a few white women.

Personally I find this very off putting, are white people not cool enough because we dont call each other wiggers? (yes it is spelt right) Or cant we dance? Lets take 2 videos as an example.

Nelly - Hot in Herre.
From start to finish I noticed 2 white people who were distant in the background and they might have been black but in light.

Pink - Dont let me get me.
About 15 black people littered through out, takes main stage and finish the video.

I could do many more, but thats your job if you agree :o

This shit makes me sick.

I hate rap music and everything associated with it.

And i hate the lifestyle.

hmm... call me immature, but the only music videos are the ones with nice looking ladies singing so unfortunatly i cannot really add anything intellectual to this debate..

having said that, i can understand how frustrating some of the points you raised above can be...

I really don't care about this topic. I personally don't think it's racism. It's sort of thinking like every video, every movie, every photo, everything must have white and black. I don't believe in that. That's just covering up racism. It's not fixing it. If there's some asian soap opera on television and I don't see any hispanic actors I won't be calling it racist. It's just how it is. Black rappers have black people in their video. White rappers have white people in their video. I don't like focusing on things like this. "Oh no, theirs only one white guy in this video and he's only on for 5 seconds!" because this just create controversy.

EDIT: BTW, Even when they do put white people in black videos or black people in white videos it creates even more skeptical remarks. For example, There's a black worker in Jurassic Park. He dies first and all of a sudden the director is racist for making him die first. Then we have people saying a white guy should have died first when others say it isnt a big deal a black guy did... you get my point.

I tend to agree with you there Some_one. I mean it has gotten out of control these days with people making soo much over nothing.

10 years ago comedians could say anything and get away with it.. i mean it was their job and it was all in good fun! (if you have ever seen eddie murphey delerious you will know what i mean.. he pays out everybody)

Nowdays if you so much as offend anyone, you will be ridiculed, and prolly sued it just plain sucks

This racism issue just doesn't really impact me. I mean it all comes down to whether you want to get trapped into the whole argument. I mean yeah, you'd probably find that black singers on TV won't have a lot of white folk in their vid's, but hey, are you gonna lose sleep over that? Not me.

Basically, is worrying about it gonna make you sleep easier at night? For me, not really, who cares what them multi-millionairre singers do, they are mostly all idiots that you wouldn't wanna know if they weren't famous...only a few decent ones probably.

But hey, if it's a real issue with you, that's fine, I'm not saying no one should care. If you believe there's something wrong, you gotta do what you gotta do. Horses for courses.

I won't lose sleep over it at all, but it will irritate me because white people as seen as uncool in the black videos, notable : Ja Rule - Living it up.

Bah, I just don't watch MTV (or at least the music videos). Simple fix. I tend to agree with Mr.Magnetichead; I can't stand most rap . Interesting hearing from non-Americans though.

What annoys me is that it's OK to be anything other than the major race/colour/nationality. For example - in the music videos the videos with mainly black people in "aren't racist, they're cultural" (yes, that is a real quote). Yet a video with mainly white people in is racist because it "doesn't show the full sweep of cultural diversity" (I'm good with these quotes).

I'm English (Or British for obsessive politicians) and proud of it. I have seen my country's flag taked down everywhere and not used while we have to use this obscure Union Flag. Scotland is part of the UK, but it's OK to fly the Scottish flag in Scotland. Fly the English flag in England you're gonna get arrested (not quite, but an equivalent punishment or embarassment).

God it's annoying.

And can I have a nice user title: Master of BS. Pleeese! Oh, OK then...

I'm British and I agree with your quote about the cuteral thing, I think its time black people start being seen as what they are, and all this protection about racial discrimination taken away, its abused and pathetic.

/me likes azz0r! He's got the right idea. I have nothing against anyone till they get extra rights etc. just bacause they're a different colour.

Yeah. You don't see a white entertainment televison but you sure as hell see a black entertainment television. Well, whatever really... they were slaves for centuries... and had to give up bus seats years ago... guess this is payback or something?

I am also of English descent, but I'm American. I bet most Americans don't even know England has its own flag, or they just think it's the Union Jack or something. Well, it's not! Here, you people that don't know learned something today .

Blue? Are you talking about the Union Flag (for the record it's only the Union Jack when it's flown from the jack mast of a ship) or the St. Georges? The St. Georges Cross is red and white.
