Hello, I am the mod leader and developer behind the HL2 mod "Black Helix" that has recently been added to moddb. We are currently in a pre-development stage and have opened slots for more talented artists that are comfortable and confident with photoshop that would enjoy to work on a multiplayer mod set in a grim, sci-fi horror atmosphere.

Before I go into detail about the positions, I'd like to give a rather quick rundown on the concept and gameplay, you can always skip or skim through it if you like: Sixty years slowly stretch by from now to then, and alot happens, actually, "alot" is a big understatment. World War Three swings into action around June of twenty-fifteen and ends in August of twenty-twentyone. The world has shattered, entire contries are raped of life. Badit Factions take control as new governers over places that no longer have a government. Due to the severity of the situation, most of the remaining Governments of the world merge to form one that will attempt to put humanity on top once again. Those who wished not to join where eventually forced. Alot of terrorism and global rioting broke out for several years during the remainder of the twnety-twenties. When the new decade arrived peace came with it. People began to see that this new government was actaully making a difference, people where getting pulled out of poverty and put into carecenters wich where actually very comfortable. If someone couldn't find a job then the government would hire them. Things where good until the problems began. A plauge spread far and wide across the world, not sickening humans but rather plants. Close to every single tree, shrub, and crop were dieing and gone within a month. It didn't take long until humanity felt the impact of this disaster. People everywhere where fighting over what little food they could find, with herbivores gone most carnivores where on their way out as well. This became known as the "Provisionary War" and in three years, a quarter of the human population was dead and was dropping even faster then before. It was about this time the government released mass-produced rations all over the world. These rations where cut from crops that where sped-grown in speical containment domes across the globe. This alleviated the problem for a little while, until the "changing". People where turning into hideious monsters all over. Becoming beings of fleshless bodies, with arms and legs mutating into deadly claws or agile feet capable of running down any human. They were not eating us for the most part. But instead killing us in the most vile ways then "assimulate" the bodies and revive them. They appear to be human apon revival but they are not. Underneath their deceitful skin lies a new terror incubating, waiting for the right moment to strike. The government was blamed, and was eventually brought down. This didn't stop the epidemic, nothing did. Was it the government's fault? Few know that answer. Fewer care now. All that matters is survival amongst a broken world with little food and lots of enemies, unseen by us... until it's too late.

Sence I spent a long time writing that I figured I'd make the gameplay discription shorter (once again, skip at your leisure): The mod was inspired by the movie remake "The Thing" but set in the future. Pretty much rounds begin with one alien disguised has a human. Human players must acomplish random map objectives while the alien tries to assimulate the humans in order to score points himself and to bring a new alien over to his side. Once enough points are collected humans can buy better armor and gear while the aliens can transform into lager lifeforms that eventually get big enough to break down doors and entire walls in their relentless hunt for humans to assimulate. No place makes for a "safe spot" and humans must continue in circles are the map completing objectives not letting their guard down for a second while the aliens try to widdle their numbers down. Victory for the aliens is eiter through a time limit the humans must beat or through complete assimulation. Victory for humans is completing every objective and excaping the map before time runs out and more creatures converge on their location.

Alright, not that you know a little bit about Black Helix. Let's get down to busness...

There are several different conceptual artist positions available and one person may even choose to take more then one role, even all of them if they believe they are capable. These roles include:
Weapon Design, Human and Armor Design, Alien Design, and Scenery Design.

Most of the roles are self explainatory but I will go a little in depth on each role: The Weapon Design artist will be asked to design all twelve (predicted number) human weapons for the mod and will be given specific details in certain areas of each weapon. The Human and Armor Design artist will be asked to design all three armored classes of humans; this includes Light, Medium, and Heavy classes. We ask that the artist has a good understanding of the human form and a good imagination when it comes to unique futuristic armor. The Alien Design artist will be asked to take basic rough drafts made by the sketch artist and improve on the idea and form to create their own work from it. Knowledge in basic human anatomy is a plus but not required. The Scenery Design artist will be asked to create vivid dark future enviroments and unique props that would fit in such an enviroment; these images will be used to give mappers a universal idea of what this future looks like and to help guide moddelers with creating interactive props.

If you are interested in any or all of these roles and have preveious work to show as an example of your skill, then please, leave me a message on moddb or email me at narkolepzy@hotmail.com. For more info on the mod visit the Black Helix database, and if you want more info past that then you can visit the website through the database.
