Old games much better gameplay wise Thread

Hi guys,
Over the past few days i've come around to thinking that older games had much better gameplay. I think this is mainly due to the size of new games compared to old games.
I always remember the lego star wars games as fun for their hidden areas, unlocks and areas to walk around between levels. In the clonewars version there where massive open battles recreating battles from the film and tv series.

Other games such as splinter cell also had much more interesting concepts, such as actual reasons to capture objectives for example capturing an objective would release smoke into the defenders rooms etc.

Games like bf2 bad company had excellent destruction systems that actually where part of gameplay and not just side shows.

Games also had more of a story and even campaigns you could replay over and over again, such as campaigns in games such as l4d2.

I can't really give my opinion until I know what exactly you think is "old" BFBC2 and L4D2 are not old at all in my opinion, and I know quite a few, in my opinion "old", games of which my memories seem to be influenced by nostalgia. From what I remembered those games were way better than modern games, but when I started playing those games again they turned out to be less amazing than I thought. In fact, I even thought some of those 'amazing old games' were actually rather boring after playing them again.

Im talking about games 2007 back as old, i agree that a lot of them dont seem as good now when you play them because the tech has got more advanced but they definitely had some gameplay mechanics that havent really been used again.

Ithink in general regardless of weather they seem as good as we may have thought we can still take those ideas or what we thought those ideas where and build them into new games

Great game play, old as old gets. o and it's free. but the player base has sadly died. just needs a massive jump start and it be alive again.

Will take a look, just thinking about some of the older games when gameplay was more important because they didn't have the graphics.
Developing my own game at the moment and rad an article about splinter cell chaos theory and they had some pretty good ideas, a while back i also pulled out a load of old wii games and took a look at them.

the wii, not old. gameboy, gamecube old. ^-^ i miss story lines the most. C&C. halflife. battlefeild 1942. farcry for the xbox. Warcraft frozen throne RTS. ect.
