MEMod's site URL is linking directly back to moddb and registering both hits out (like it should do) and unique hits in (affecting the charts) by looping back..... Question is, are we allowed to do this? Only noticed when I was wondering how their hits out counter is rising despite a DOS attack. - Edited By intelligentsia On Sat 18th, Oct 2003 @ 9:29:58am -- Deputy Lead, Musician. Just done it. Found their fucking team lead even has his homepage link in his Morrowind forum profile linking to the topsites html. Cheeky bastard. MEMod. Yet they're up to 76 hits in now. From a website that's not working. - Edited By intelligentsia On Sun 19th, Oct 2003 @ 4:12:22pm -- Deputy Lead, Musician. Sound Tech, Texturer, Scripter & Designer for Wizards' Islands - The Story Of Burning Snow. |

Hmmm... ok here's the official explanation. Firstly, telling people to go to a url of Memod.moddb.com is a lot easier than the counter url. by linking the "in" url to the moddb site, it allows for us to count those visitors that we just hand the link out to. This isn't against the moddb rules. I checked. Surprising for someone (especially from our past issues) to be so petty as to post this without even bothering to ask me about it. I would appreciate a little courtesy of "hey is this against the rules, or what's the deal?" or something, instead I get off work and find 4 threads on multiple forums about how it's been confirmed that MEMod is cheating on moddb counters. EDIT: And btw, on all the forums our "website" links in our profiles go to the memod moddb counter, and that's for most of our members. And I just finished reading the thread that seems to have been the main reason for your hyperactive and very pre-emptive "lashing" against MEMod. When I registered the memod.moddb.com url it was to shorten the url link for a "hit" so when I give our link out to individuals, their visit to the page would be counted. I therefore went through and set some of the url's we'd been linking to use the memod.moddb.com address. My oversight in the fact that setting our moddb.com site url to the same actually counted both an IN and an OUT hit is a simple human mistake. Shoot, for the longest time we weren't getting ANY "in" hits because I didn't know what url to use. Dark0ne even points this out in his description of the morrowind source link in the Morrowind category. I make link mistakes often. So immediately blaming and accusing me of cheating is a bit off, IMHO. This kind of issue can be fixed easily with a PM to myself, within which I can test it and verify that yes it does count 2 hits, and fix it myself. No need to assume that i'm a bloody cheat and trying to rip off the system. -- D -- ÿÿ Daerk ÿÿ Leader of the Middle-Earth Mod for Morrowind |
