Its about 6 years since we had a decent WW2 shooter. That was Call of Duty World At War. People were tired of all the WW2 games, and wanted something new. and i got it! In 6 years it have bin modern warfare with fiction wars ore not theme at all. I don't know about you, but I would love to see a WW2 game with a new game engine. And I'm hungry for a new WW2 shooter.

At the moment I work one something with I can't unveiled jet. If I don't succeed, I do have a plan B with are longer and harder. But I may come back to that at some point.

So the question is. Are we hungry after a new WW2 shooter?
Let me know what you guys think, and what you wish to have in the game?
And what do you not want in the game?
Please give me a lot of feedback!

Later I will write about what I have in mind.

Personally I think that the theme of the game ( Sci-Fi, Medieval, WW2, Modern e.t.c.) is the least importan aspect of a game. I mean if a game is decent, unique, enjoyable, addictive and interesting then it doesn't matter on what age or style is based on. I am not in the position to judge your game at that moment because you haven't shown any footage or any details. It would be great if you could write a small concept description or show some images or videos, then we can give actual feedback.

Mistergeorge>> I understand what you personal think and thanks for your feedback.
As I say, I'm can't unveilded anyting jet, because I'm still working on plan A.

I can talk a little bit about what I have in mind whan we talk plan B.
As I'm under education as a Digital artist I know a lot of people that are working like med in Maya, Zbrush, Photoshop everyday. and I know 2 Coders maybe more. So I think there is a good possibility to start a team.
the goal is to make a very realistic shooter, that unlike most of them is will be about to flank and be in cover if you wanna survive. The hit point will be natural do to the real world. So it will be slow pace. Regarding vehicles I'm thinking part player and part AI.
It will be Multi-player and addressed to clans.

At the moment i have 4 game game engines in mind, only 2 of them that I know is free source that we can use as long as we make the game for free. So what I think we will do is to make one map. as a demo for free. And then find funding through Kick Stater, EU funding, investors ect. To make a top quality game.

But again that is what I have in mind for plan B. and I have not worked on a lot on that jet.

I hope it gives you a idea what direction that game will go, If we are gonna make it.

What about red orchastra 2? That along with the expansion has been the best ww2 shooter since the original brothers in arms game.

figalot>> red Orchaster 2 is with no doubt one of the best WW2 shooter! But there are things that the game do not provide things like destructible environment that can change the map and create new flanks ect.

red orchastre 2 is af far as i know not that minded in terms of the history behind. I mean the it is ofcause on the Eastern Front. But are the map design made from pictures and other historic documents? also Red Orchastra 2 do not have a lot of dust and smoke that a modern game engine can provide now, it adds to the graphic but it will also add much to the gameplay.

The game I have in mind is to make the historic correct out of Pictures, Movies, google maps, research on the net and books ect. Its not just a game I want people to lern a bit behind the battles. And I will be a tribute to all the soldiers who participated.

The demo map i think wi will make will be Carantan (band of broters) ore the (city Valognes) Because people know and can relate to them.

If you are going to make a war game...please make a world war 1 game...this subject is hugely untouched and i think with the primitive weapons this could offer alot of great gameplay.

Fencing_Zealot>> Could be nice but the thing is that it was a trench warfare. not a lot of battles in the towns, so I guess it would be very much battle in no mans land. so I'm not sure how to make it to a tactical shooter out of that! Also its not easy for people to relate to WW1 because its way different than WW2 that everybody can relate to.

Maybe I'm wrong? :)

Well, im from belgium...so i guess for me its easy to relate to ww1 haha. I think trench wars could be awesome. You could force the enemy out of trenches with poision gas, artillery fire. You could even do a 100man server like in the mount and blade expansion napoleonic wars, and do last team standing or something. Maybe even have like raid leaders who can blow a whistle to start an assault on the enemy trenches, im sure you can work out some game mechanic for this. Its just something that i would love to play, but you should do what you feel confident with, because you will be making the game. But yea, with ww2 you have to compete with a few other games...with the ww1 setting...its a niche with basically no games to compete with.

Fencing_Zealot>> Do you relate more to WW1 than to WW2? It would work with a 100man server I think. And your suggestions sounds nice. But at this point I still feel confident with WW2 because mere people can relate more to it.

At this point, I'm not gonna make a game, however that will be my plan B. I know it's not easy to make a game. So there are still many considerations to take, like finding the Team, the right game engine, time ect. But I think I have good conditions to find the team that will be needed. But I need to put all my thoughts into worlds, pictures and art. That progress will start if plan A fail-.

I must admit I'v hoped for more feedback and more positive feedback. Maybe the gamers are not ready for a new WW2 shooter jet. Anyway if we start making the game, we will start seriously from about a year from now. So I have a lot of spare time to make all what I need to make a proper presentation to finding the team :)

yea..there are just a ton of WW1 musea here in belgium, so thats the only reason why i relate more to it haha. I think you need to start working on a game design document, try to do something different then call of duty did, if its something cool, then that could definatly create a hype. Even if it is 6 years ago since the last WWII shooter. Things like the beach assaults on d-day would sound really cool to me if they could be done on a bigger scale then say in game like wolfenstein enemy territory. But yea, you need to differentiate yourself on previous done games...no matter how long ago they are. Unless you have a triple A team and alot of budget...then you can probably get away with cloning call of duty 1 with better graphics, otherwise you need to make the gameplay really cool and different. A good game design document is the best start to get a team together.

Fencing_Zealot>> You are so right. Do you make game script/design document? Newer try it before. But the game will be multi player only. But it will be kind a campaign feeling to it.

What i think make it unique is the cover system I have a in mind. There is no "Rambo mode" you have to work as a team. Its more like Rainbow 6 games and you run from cover to cover and not just into a fight. You have to flank a MG ect. If you are going capture you can do it from more than just from one way. that also mean that the enemy what to defendt more that one front. Above that you have a commander who try to give orders and he also control vehicles a lot like in a strategy game. So a tank and its crew will be AI. you will be able to climb up on a tank, open the hatch and throw a grenade in, just like in saving private Ryan.
and so on. and much more :)

Have fun :D.

Yea that might be cool. just keep it simple, what you probably want is to create a game that can be done within 2 years, and hopefully get some revnue from that. I mean, be creative and ambitious, just keep it easy and achievable, thats something many developers do wrong, they want to make an mmorpg or a big rpg....you need a shitload of funding to be succesfull with that...and even getting a prototype out to get that funding...its a very long and hard road. A shooter on the other hand is probably more realistic, just use a decent engine like unreal, and keep it simple and achievable....when first starting on a game design document it might seem like the sky is the limit...but when you actually start developping...its a long and hard road, and having a simple game thats easly prototype-able will definatly help with morale for your team.

Fencing_Zealot>> Thanks for your advice, and I will keep that in mind. Start to make er pre-dokument of all the things I would like to have in the game. And after that put it in a Must have list and in nice to have. After all I have a year to work on it. But I will still work most on my plan A. with is close to done. So let's see what happens.

Thank you for the link to the game-document. its nice to have some thing to work from. But have you ever try this one? :)

Just a very small update.
Plan A: Failed.... Plan A was about to get a company that already do a WW2 shooter to change there ovn game Engine to CryEngine because I think they need it. But we write mails back and fourth. And they write at I was not easy to do.. And that the CryEngine could not do what they needed it to do.

So that means that I will start to write down and work on my vision and see with people will join me making they game. As all the work I will do is in my spare time It will take some time to do. So don't aspect a lot of updates for a long time. How ever, I will answer people when ore if they write :)
