About Me (Feel Free To Skip This Bit)

I study economics in London and this Summer I am taking part in an apprenticeship at a big UK bank, I am so glad I did it because it made me realise how important it is to find a job I'm actually passionate about. Games are my major hobby so I'm giving writing and developing a shot.

As someone with no coding skills, no musical ability, no artistic talent I felt like I'd hit a brick wall fairly quickly. I used Construct 2, which is basically development for dummies and had these prototypes built in an hour or two each... Scirra.com I hope to go back to a few of these but I decided to start with "It's Nothing Personal" because it could be fleshed out fairly easily considering it's my first game.

So the game....

As I said above it's called It's Nothing Personal and I describe it as Divekick, if Divekick was a platformer. It's supposed to be played 2 player local multiplayer (P1 using arrow keys, P2 using WASD). I've now added a single player though, the number of players can be toggled with A and D in the menu. It's my first game so the AI is a bit iffy but I'm pretty proud of it.

If you could download my latest build and leave feedback I'd really appreciate it:

Same here (on PC). I've watched the gameplay video though and it seems to be a fun game to play.

Yeah it looks fun although what decides whether you are damaging or you are being damaged? is it that you are jumping on the other guy's head ?

Aug 5 2013 Anchor

Sorry guys I'm an idiot! Should be fixed now, yeah it's old school head jumping (give or take- I'm a bit lenient so contact above shoulders works)

It was fun indeed! There was something I couldn't do and I think it would be nice to add: Combo hit! If you hit your opponent and then land again on his head during the same jump, then currently it doesn't count as a second hit, but I think if it did count, it would be better.

Great for mobile platform type stuff. How did you manage to simulate AI in Construct 2? Good job, I am a UDK scripter but I would like to learn Construct 2 stuff so if you ever want to make a game in 2-man team give me a shout : P

Interesting, thanks! I specifically programmed something to stop that double hit happening. Can I ask if you played single player or multiplayer? :)

Thanks! I have no clue what platform I'm aiming for, the only problem I have is I'm not a fan of touch controls for platformers which this sort of is. I do the AI by comparing the player's relative x & y co ordinates and some chance variables. I'd definitely be up for working with you on something, one thing I'd have to warn you about is that I actually suck at art, most of the assets weren't made by me. If you're still up for it though then feel free to message me :)

It is a very entertaining game! Although I think it lacks online multiplayer.

That would be cool! Unfortunately as my first game I don't really have a clue how I'd go about getting something like that to work. I'd also worry about a lack of players, I get what you're saying though if there isn't someone you can play with then a lot of the game is lost. A week or so ago there wasn't even a singleplayer XD

Edit: I forgot to say thanks for the feedback! Thankyou :)

Well the important thing is the scripting aspect, how much of it is your own? Or is it 100% a tutorial? Just confused as you said you're not a programmer but made it in a few days.

You got that right, in the future, sure there will be more players. Thank you! ;)

I'll try and get everything making sense :p

The art assets I bought so have every right to use in a game

Everything else, the programming, the idea, the entire game is made by me without a tutorial. So I guess I am a programmer

Cool. Well then yeah I would like to help out if you come up with an idea for a new game, or are looking to expand this one somehow. I am a scripter in UDK but always up for learning other scripting languages. More of a gameplay coder than core systems such as character, AI etc. Would leave that to you : P

I played single player as I didn't have anyone else with me, other than my other hand, but I would definitely enjoy it more in multiplayer.

I've decided I'm making a rock, paper, scissors game in Construct 2 this week as practice : P

Aug 5 2013 Anchor

Awesome, good luck :)! I don't want to derail this as I'm still desperate for feedback on this game. But if ever you need help feel free to ask, you can find some gameplay prototypes I made with the software here: Scirra.com

Pretty big update! There are now multiple stages (Still working on more though), slightly better visuals and a pretty major AI fix for Perk Mode.
As always, thoughts are welcome!
