Mortal Kombat: Deception Review

Introduction
Anyone can agree that the Mortal Kombat series is one of the true classics but is yet still one of the best fighting games to date. Midway's latest title, Mortal Kombat: Deception, is the only proof you need to say that Midway is bringing Mortal Kombat back with a vengeance.

Gameplay
The gameplay in Mortal Kombat: Deception has dramatically changed since its last appearance Deadly Alliance. The physics are outright jaw-dropping! From Sub-Zero's freeze blast, to Raiden's electric shock, it's just amazing. You could of never seen ice, lightning, fire, or anything in the relevance, and know exactly what it looks like if you've played the game. Not to sound too scary, but they all give me a warm fuzzy feeling!

In Deception, Mortal Kombat introduces the Konquest mode, in which you must travel through a variety of different realms, which are huge diverse worlds, in order to complete a quest assigned to you by the Elder Gods. Each realm also has its own unique personality. For instance, Netherrealm is a place where only the most terrifying creatures dwell, where only evil lurks, where Earthrealm is of peace and tenderness.
Your fate lies upon your decisions, so think wisely.

Deception also introduces two more new gameplay modes; the favored board game Chess, and the well-known digital game known as Tetris. Each game mode is modified to fit Mortal Kombat suitably, whereas the Mortal Kombat fighters replace the chess pieces, whom you get to choose. Unlike in the board game, you must beat the enemy in kombat in order to claim a spot instead of just simply taking the opposing chess piece. Also, Midway had an adept idea of adding the use of spells and different types of unique options to the game mode, which I think gives it an interesting but challenging twist.

Finally, the time has come where the ultimate fighting game comes with the online feature! So, if you feel like taking your anger out on the kid down the street, or the kid in another continent, you have the tools to do so.

Graphics
As expected, the graphics in Deception are just captivating. The new outfits for the characters are awesome, and they fit them so well! I don't mean by the right size, I mean by their personality. Midway knew what they were doing when they made the models! But no matter how good they look, the arena's can't get any better. The textures look so real, and the way they're interactive gives the environment even more attitude.

Sound
To my surprise, the sound isn't really that great. All of the sound effects, from the basic moans and grunts from the fighters to the tearing scrapes from the grinders, it all sounds like the previous games. Sure, they sound superb when you're in a fight and aren't paying close attention to them, but when it comes down to it, no improvement was made on the sounds. However, I can say that the music was quite defying. I do miss the original Mortal Kombat theme song, "Fight for Your Might," but I can definately do without. The music composers did such a great job on their beautiful pieces, I believe it made up for the downfall of the sounds.

Conclusion
No matter if you're a Mortal Kombat fan, or just a fighting type of person, Deception is positively the ultimate fighting game to date. Even if you're not into fighting, I think that you'd get hooked to the game within a matter of minutes, if you gave it a chance!

Please note that I posted the review under ecion, which is not my real account. I just figured out my password to this one, so I can actually use it now. I've been trying to contact INtense! for a few days now, and it seems he hasn't been around. I'm sure it'll be soon when it is all cleared up. :D
