Morrowind comes with an editor that allows you to change anything in the game.

Awrighty. Can I point you towards The Legalities of Modding. Unless you have permission I strongly recommend you disassociate yourself with Middle Earth, Lord of the Rings or anything else owned by Tolkien Enterprises Inc.

I have to say, I'm suprised the project hasn't been pissed all over yet. Same with U9: Redemption. Ultima and Middle Earth are the kind of franchises that compainies are *very* protective of.

Incidentally Wizards' Islands are recruiting for, well, sweet jack all, though another animator might be nice, and maybe someone with a lot of webspace :P

My lawyers (on retainer) researched all aspects of my project before I started it. I don't get involved with anything such as this without legal consultation. The Middle-Earth Mod for Morrowind uses public license granted by the Tolkien Estate for fan-creations based on the Middle-Earth/LotR/Arda/etc content copyrighted by the Tolkien Estate. It's freely available, fan-based, not-for-profit, and doesn't follow any publications of the Tolkien Estate. It's based in the same world and setting, but not in any time/storyline that is documented beyond brief appendix entries for timeline. I've been informed by my family lawyers that i'm perfectly in the clear as long as certain rules are maintained and certain lines not crossed over.

In short, thanks for the concern, we need more concerned and knowledgeable individuals in the mod community, and we've had that covered since before day one of the development. :)

YES! FINALLY!

Congratulations on being the first modder I know of to actually check the legal side. If there's a fan creations licence then you're fine, so w00t to that and good luck with the mod.

Sounds like a good way to shut the idiots up about 'Where's Gandalf' and 'Why can't I find the Ring Of Power'.

lol... This is why i decided to make my own mod, and not base it off something.. You just don't get legal hassle by makin something from your own mind.... Well, then again, i DO have nothing but stolen sounds... lol.. gotta fix that one.. :D
