UrbanDictionary.com lays out the fundamentals:

  • Spyware can track your Internet activity.
  • Spyware can change your search page.
  • Spyware can change your homepage.
  • Spyware can change your "not found" page.
  • Spyware can slow down your computer.
  • Spyware installs itself within another piece of software.
  • Spyware is not included in all software.
  • Some spyware is harmless while another can take more advantage of your computer's processing capability.
  • It is not the end of the world to have spyware on your computer as long as you are able to delete it.
  • Spyware is commonly found in (some) pop-up blockers, (some) browser toolbars and (some) other addons.

  • The fact is, you may be housing hundreds of these in the files you use every day, even when you boot up your computer.

Microsoft's newest (and free) download takes care of your spyware problems by offering a full scan through your computer for any files that are affected by these little buggers and recommends what method you should use, whether through a Quarantine, Ignoring the problem (if it doesn't harm your computer at all), or Deleting it completely. This is a great program that I've been using for about a week. It's been smoothly built to take care of your spyware problems, while also giving you a warning of a file that's trying to download that may or may not have spyware programs attached. This is especially useful if you use a P2P program, and you don't want to have that invasion of privacy all over your computer. Give it a try, and you can see that, just from the beta, this is one great program that'll replace AdAware as your #1 choice for spyware-zapping.

hmm i wonder if its better then adaware or spybot. ill have to check it out later..

    Feb 13 2005 Anchor

    1. It's microsoft

    2. I don't have any of these spyware problems.

I don't know anyone who manages to obtain hundreds of spywares a day, and if they do, they shouldn't be using a computer.

You're probably just not aware of it. It's not like you can see it happening, necessarily. It's kind of like running ScanDisk. You never know the problems with your computer until you actually use a program to check it. You find out your computer runs faster with the spyware removed.

Just try it out and see for yourself. Don't be so quick to judge it.

Well, like I mentioned, this is a healthy alternative to AdAware. It solves the same problems, if not more, since it's directly configured for Windows systems. Not to mention, it's also free. I'm just letting people know, really, that it's out there :)

It's not like scandisk at all. I download it, ran it, and surprise surprise, it didn't find anything. I'm aware of what spyware is on my computer (or in most cases is not on my computer) because I'm not stupid enough to go to a site or use a p2p program which would invoke such spyware.

next time read everything. "limewire isnt illegal, downloading stolen movies and such is..." thats the same thing as saying "etc.". instead i said "and such". Thats not misinformation...

And im not the one who cares about legalness, moddb does.

yes but why even bother bringing it up? no-one was even talking about it

    Feb 13 2005 Anchor

yes they were. they were saying how p2p programs have viruses and you should use the microsoft scan program if you use a p2p program. thats why i mention how limewire doesnt have viruses.

    Feb 13 2005 Anchor

It's not the program that has viruses, It's what people send over the program that have viruses.

yes. thats why people should only download files that are compressed, so that they can scan them once downloaded.

    Feb 13 2005 Anchor

it does do that, because it picks up all chat programs as potentially harmful

no, its because msn plus installs spyware. It did it for me too and found two spyware programs installed by msn plus. So ya, msn plus is gone for me now. :P However i also use trillian, and no problems there.

Don't get this program wrong. It's not an antivirus software. It's an antispyware software. I don't know if it'll protect you against viruses. You'd have to get another program, like Norton or McAfee, to solve that problem.

And yes, a lot of programs are covered. You have to make sure that before you finalize the choices of MWAS (Microsoft Windows Antispyware shortened), you want to check to make sure that there are no programs up there that says it will delete that you don't want deleted. That's how I lost Morpheus. :)
