So we made this trailer:

In one day we gathered 300 views. But mostly because i posted it on a few places that i knew. So i expect the number of views to start dropping again in the coming days and eventually stall and fade into the nothingness of the internet.

I know that the trailer has room for improvement..but there is only that much you can do with some volunteers working for free, so we need to get the word out there and create a community/following...even if it is simply to boost the morale of our devs.

What would be the best way to do this? And what are your own experiences with this?

The first thing to do would be to add a better thumbnail ;)

Looks pretty good! I actually didnt finish my trailer until 2 days after the game was done (opps!). Anyways I didnt really market the trailer or anything it was more about just getting a search result on google if people were looking for the game I guess.

Marketing of a game entails a lot more than just a trailer, as you said gathering a community around your game is really important and will determine how successful your game will be. I'd say your best bet is to get active on the internet, I see that on your game page on Indie DB there are only two News updates spaced one month apart. You should be regularly pushing out small news snippets of interesting development information to make people want to come back to your page and interact with your content. I'm not saying to devolve your entire design document but keep people updated on whats going on, give them new things to talk about and be interested in. Also don't just confine yourself to this site, utilize social media to grab people and post in other forums. Don't be annoying by any means but getting the word out about your game is important.

Hope that helps somewhat :D

Thanks. Yea i will turn things around and post more regulary.. i feel that in the past we have been to self-conscious about the quality of work we post...but this means that we cant post very often since we are still in early development pretty much. Need to be able to start a conversation about our game design with people and try to engage them that way...lets see if that will work! Thanks.

I think the biggest bit of advice I can give it BE EVERYWHERE. Have a steady flow of news and updates so you always have something to talk about. Before you do that, I would suggest improving your image as Golden Oak Studios. For example, the trailer has been posted by yourself and not the company, people will remember a company name and logo more than just someone's name (Even if you are just one man on your own making the game, call yourself something that is easier for people to remember)

The game is looking good so far... just spend some time on the marketing. Check out these posts by Pixel Prospector: Pixelprospector.com
