Laptop Suggestions? Thread

I am looking into a cheap laptop ($200-250). Nothing special, just enough to irc, email, surf the web, and maybe some writing. Any suggestions? :/

get an old pentium..maybe 1 or 2

Same thing i have been searching for a fairly cheap laptop, but i havnt had any success.

I've got an old 486 laptop... you could technically hook it up to the net through parallel cable (using DCC) and use some primitive IRC client and web browser... and maybe even Word if you pushed it hard. Though I don't think it would be worth the postage to the US

You can always catch a bargin on eBay, or if look through the classifields in the newspaper (Or whatever they call it over there).

but really, you want a decent one, or one that can at least have a wireless network card

You can always look for refurbished ones. Those get really cheap. I've found desktops for $100-$150 on there.

its a tad over your price, but atleast it wont crash at the site of the login screen!

I heard a way you can get like 200-600 bucks off laptops with dell they have little coupon numbers and you can search the web for these coupon numbers and some are like 15% off or 200 dollars off and also Dell is almost like a car company you can haggle with them my friend got his XPS originally around $3500 to like 3100 which I mean hell if you can save 400 bucks you might as well do it

@Chis - I was going to get a really nice, but my parents (who rox0r) promised me a really nice one when i graduate, so i think a just ok one will do for 2 years. Afterwards i'll give it to someone, or sell it on ebay and continue the cycle (by then a 600mhz laptop will probably run 100-150 xP)

@SCM - Yes, we have classifieds. luckily, there is a local magazine called "Common Cents". Basically it is classifieds run by inexperienced people, for people who dont know what their stuff is worth

my dad got a p1 100something Mhz +a cd-case with like 3-4 operating systems, loads of software and a palm pilot all for $250 like 4 years ago, and it still works...except the palm pilot, it broke the day he got it

btw, it was used.
