Just looking for some feedback. Thread

Hi, I am Oak, new to these forums. I beleive this is the right place to post this thread. I read the Mod Idea posting rules and I do not think this would qualify for that area. I am looking for feedback on these ideas or some discussion about them.

Here are the ideas.

A top down in space shooter much in the style of genre that Escape velocity is. If you dont know what Escape velocity is : Ambrosiasw.com

It wouldnt be the same of course but similar in the camera view and the fact that it is in space, with spaceships. The game would be single player with an open ended story line and no actual way to "win" the game. You can complete the story line and continue to play in the game. Instead of Just having ships going around all the time there are places where you can step off and enter a first person view to wreak havok or pet kittens or whatever. In space you can board other ships, after disabling them, or while combatting them if you have purchased an assault team or similar upgrade item. When boarding other ships it would switch to first person where you and any crew members will fight it out with the enemy crew for supremecy of the ship.

This does seem like alot of work. But I would like to see something like this made. I think it could be a really good Game if developed right.

Another idea is a multiplayer wargame, but with npc's in the fray just to make the war seem bigger and more action packed. When a person dies they could have a choice to take control of one of the npc's or arrive on a reinforcements boat, if reinforcements are on the way. The time frame could be anytime but id like to stray from WWII. A science fiction theme might be neat.

I want to see a spy game too. A really cool science fiction spy game with an awesome spy sci-fi plot.

Also a question. Are there any good looking RPG games in development for the source Engine?

There are some parts of your space game idea that are interesting. However, I don't think that just the ability to switch to first person is going to be a large enough feature to carry the game. I have played EV and adding a high quality first person interaction to the game would have been fun I think. There are some other games that focus on ship to ship combat and boarding actions here on moddb, since this seems to be the core of your game idea I would suggest you check those out.

There are games with similar game play to your second idea but I don't recall any with Sci Fi themes off the top of my head. Once again the idea is nice, but it's not enough to make a good game around in my opinion. It might be fun to play but unless something else is added it will not be fun for long.

A spy game might be cool. I imagine somthing like splinter cell, what did you have in mind?

Yes I'm pretty sure there are. :-) Once again nothing off the top of my head but if you look around I'm sure you can find them.

Well a Sci-Fi spy game. First Person shooter. More of a James Bond / Perfect Dark kind of experience though. Really Im gonna have to sit down for a bit and write any ideas I have so I can peice them together on this one. But for now it could start out with a few missions and at this point only vague hints to waht is to become of the main plot. I have ideas floating around for all of those ideas but id like to choose one to tango with. I wanna do the spaceship one.

As for good RPG's for Source... I'm sure there aren't any out, but plenty in development. Here's one that I found on my modwatch list.

I'm pretty sure there are others out there, most likely inactive though. Just look around, maybe use the search feature, there are plenty of ways to find what you want here at ModDB.

Return to Mana seems kind of inactive as well. 5 months since last profile update.

Aww man, Return to mana looked really awesome. Hope they are still working on it though even if they are not updating.
