Idea for a new RTS and a short question Thread

Hi at all from the Forum.

I'm kinda new and never made a thread but I try my best to follow all the rules.

Anyway, my idea beginns with the fact that the current RTS scene in no longer what I want from an RTS. Essentially theres nothin wrong with that but I dont like it that much. So i started to scrap together some ideas in my head an have come to the conclusion that I would like to make one for myself. I just now found the perfect already existing game in wich my idea would fit perfectly, but there comes my problem. I have no idea how to completly mod a game. So how hard is it? And what would I have to do/learn to do it. I'm talking about the game Earth 2160. And I would like to use its engine to create my game.

I hope I dont bother anyone with that question and that someone takes the time to answer me, it would make me very happy just to get some answers so I would finally know if this project is within reach for me or not.
