I am relatively new to the PS3, I just got it on the 25th, I know my
way around it but I have two questions that aren't covered in the
instruction manual:

1. I found a download in the PlayStation Store called "PS2 System Data"
or something like that and it said it would "allow for compatability
with PlayStation 2 games that are compatable with Hard-Disk
installation", it hasn't worked so far on the 4 games that I've tested,
I thought it would be cool to use since I have a 160 Gigabyte PS3, but
alas it hasn't worked so far. Could someone tell me how/if it works?
And if it DOES work could someone tell me which games DO work using it?

2. How do mods on the PS3 work? I am curious as to how a mod on a console would work at all.

Doesn't work because the newer PS3 systems are not backwards compatible with PS2 games, only PS1 games. You'd have to have bought the original 20gb, 60gb, or 80gb systems sold near launch to get that ability (20gb and 60gb to get full compatibility). The good news is t that I heard Sony is endeavoring to start putting PS2 games up for sale on their store, so you'll least have the ability to still get to play those games. For now, you may have to buy a PS2 or just stick with the great games the PS3 has to offer. 2009 will be a great year for the system.

The only game that supports mods right now is Unreal Tournament 3.

  • Unzip the file to the root directory of any memory card that is readable by your PlayStation 3, such as a USB drive or flash drive. It is already in the proper directory structure but, just in case, the path and filename need to be: ps3\savedata\blus30086-modimport\userdata.jam
  • Boot up Unreal Tournament 3 on your PS3
  • Go to the "Community" menu
  • Choose "My Content"
  • Press the [SQUARE] button to "Import Mod"
  • Follow the directions on the screen to import it from your memory card. (Flash Drive, USB Drive)

  • Here is a video that may be easier for you to follow: Youtube.com

Hope that helped. Sorry about the news on the hard drives, but it was just Sony's way of cutting costs.

I knew some PS3s had backwards compatability, but I thought they came with it and this was for the other models that didn't come with compatability. Well I'm glad I still have my PS2 then, but if even if Sony releases PS2 games on their store I still probably won't be able to play my games, my main PS2 games are MGS2: Substance and MGS3: Subsistence (2 disk games unforunately :( ), so unless Sony releases a fix I will have to keep my PS2.

lol, well, once you play Metal Gear Solid IV with Metal Gear Online, you won't ever want to go back to those two games. With games like Uncharted 2, Infamous, Killzone 2, God of War 3, Heavy Rain, White Knight Story, MAG, Final Fantasy XIII Versus, Yakuza 3, Gran Turismo 5, DC Universe Online, Ratchet & Clank Future 2, and probably the new Twisted Metal game coming exclusive to the PS3 (or in DC Universe Online''s case, console exclusive), there's certainly something for everyone, so you may never have to go back to your PS2 games. Hopefully, they'll build a much better relationship with third parties to beef up their library while they're at it, at least when it comes to quality titles. There doesn't appear to be too many great titles like this on the other systems, so I think whoever bought you that system made a great choice!

lol, it does have Tekken 6, and that's coming out next year. Mortal Kombat... that game is pretty much Midway's swan song, as the owner saw that sales of that game wasn't going to get them out of the huge debt they incurred. None of the versions of the game were even in the top 20 last month when the game was released. And considering now that Tekken 6 and Mortal Kombat are multiplatform, it wouldn't really help Sony, since a lot of the sales would also be going to the Xbox 360.

No, I think it will be games like God of War 3 and Gran Turismo 5 that will really help boost sales, just like MGS4 did when the PS3 sold twice as many 360 consoles in the month of June. I don't think a lot of the games I mentioned will be released in 2009 however, because I doubt Sony wants to oversaturate the market, but it is a good sign that there won't be a shortage of exclusives in the near future.

I've played MGS4, and I'm still playing it, I can't play MGO due to satellite internet. And I still want my old PS2 games because I still like them, and I haven't finished unlocking everything yet.
