I don't get this... Thread

Hi all!

I am an 'older' citizen (NOT one of the PC-Kid-Generation - so keep that in mind) so please be patient with me

I know this site for ages, but registered here just recently, mainly because i LOVE Half-Life and here I can find tons of good (and less good) Mods
for that.
I am NOT a Modder/ Programmer, nor I have a clue about these things! I am just an 'advanced' PC user who loves to play Games (mostly Shooters);
my absolute favs are CoD & Half-Life.

The reason I am writing this is, because I R E A L L Y (!) would like to understand, WHY some mods I can play & some (I am afraid, the majority)
I can NOT play on my PC, if they are for the same game and if I have installed Steam, Half-Life, HL2 (Ep.1 & 2) and so on...???
I really just want to understand it, I am NOT criticizing anyone or anything.

For instance, I just succesfully finished playing Strider Mountain... before that I also successfully played other mods (Slums 2 Extended, The Citizen, Awakening, Calamity, Combine Combat, Infiltration for sure , I don't remember anymore all the other ones), but as I tried to run Random 17, Random Quest, Mission Improbable, Deep Down, Precursor, Penetration, Residual Error: city 34 (here for example in the main start screen is missing the 'new Game' 'Load Game' options) I just did NOT succeed, although I red ALL the instructions carefully, changed the 'gameinfo.txt' accordingly, changed the SteamAppId to 215, 218, 220, 420 ... but still no success...?!

I mean, my question is of a general nature, NOT specifically regarding Mission Improbable - I know from past attempts, that some of the mods (for the SAME(!) game) were running, some were NOT! Either I could not start them at all or there were those well known and well hated violet-black squares and those big red 'ERROR'-artefacts. I also know the thing with copying the ep2\models & ep2\materials folders and also red the article 'Fixes & Updates For Broken Mods' as well as the 'SteamPipe fix for HL2 and EP2 mods' - this is just to inform you that YES, I can follow instructions and YES, I try everything(!)
before asking questions!

I really hope that someone will (competently) answer this, because I r e a l l y (!) wish to understand!!!

You may answer me in English, Deutsch, Magyarul, or Česky/ Slovensky, it's up to you.

Could be wrong, however I'm not sure if this is the best channel to seek tech support for particular HL and COD mods.
Have you tried contacting the modders for the mods in question?

I think you missunderstood what I wrote: I am NOT seeking tech.support for a particular mod; rather I'd like to understand why are these things happening...
But anyways, it's not that important.
