If you could make the perfect Boxing modification (strictly MP at first) how would you go about it, with features and such. The main goal would be create a realism one, not crap like Fight Night Round 2.

*cough* copied and pasted *cough*

------------------------------------------------------------

You will be able to work your character up from rags to riches, customizing every single detail about them. During this, you will have to deal with outside matters (school, work, girlfriend, family, etc.) and keeping your mind focused on the matches ahead of you. The characters you face off against will be randomly generated, so you never face the same person twice. They will also have some sort of tie to a storyline of theirs, so the real focus is character development to the fullest (like the way every mod should be). You will be able to increase your stats through any number of excercises. Even during the match, the way you fight your opponent will affect what you appear as later on. If you get punched in your nose too many times, it will start to look disfigured until you go to a clinic to have it fixed, which will leave a scar on your nose. If you continually punch with your right arm, that will start to grow in power while your left will become less dependable. For your training, you'll be able to do road work, weights, sparring sessions, shadow boxing, heavy bag work, punching bag practice, and even more.

After you finish the Single Player campaign, you can switch off to Manager Mode. Here, you'll be able to head your own gym. You'll follow each boxer's condition as they go from shaggy kid from the street to World Champion contender. You'll manage finances for equipment, investments into future technology, participate in building up each boxer as you see fit, and much more. Outside of the gym, you'll help build their spirit on road work and help them fit into a schedule that they're comfortable with. Once they are ready for real matches, you'll be in their corner to help them relax and stay comfortable while offering helpful commentary to keep their morale up. Other interesting tidbits include attacking other gym members to force them out of a match, or meeting and greeting other gym leaders (not all at once Razz ). Hopefully, you'll be able to make your gym the most famous in the world.

From there, you can move on to Multiplayer mode. Here, you'll be able to take your created boxer from the Single Player mode into live action. You'll compete with other boxers in your weight class, eventually working up to title contendership with the man who holds the title. The Manager Mode will also take place in this mode, where your typical "clan leaders" will be able to start their own gyms that the members can join and fashion themselves when they're not fighting anyone (basically a lobby for the servers). Pretty soon, you'll be able to take on any gym with your boxers in all-out gym wars. Gyms will be featured in ranking lists based on their behavior (This may be Worst Sportsmanslike Conduct, Best Sportsmanlike Conduct, K.O. Kings, Losers of the Lot, etc.).

------------------------------------------------------------

My main focus on every mod is character development. That's the most important element in any story if you want it to be both successful and memorable.

Fine. Look at the bottom paragraph, then. lol. Just change it so you can customize your character offline and then take him online and build them in the virtual realm using different stat modifiers and whatnot. :)

I guess you're a pretty big fan of the EA series. Unfortunely the only flaw I ever had with it was, it was to easy on hard, and it wasn't really realistic which would be sweet.

That's true. I did a lot of backing up and throwing that haymaker all the time. However, I just loved the ducking and weaving part of it as well, and replaying some of the legends in boxing (my favorite was Sugar Ray Leonard) and trying to mimick their style. There were definitely some hard battles here and there (I met guys with one-punch K.O.'s right at the start of the round), but I thought the best part was being able to create your own boxer and really building him up to the biggest badass in boxing.

I've evidently become a huge fan of boxing, so I think it would be great to create a mod where it really boosts the scene, which is almost absent in the modding world. Perhaps when I get to the uni and take Computer Sciene. They have a GameDev class at Iowa State University where people get to create their own games, so I may try to recreate a modern version of Super Punch Out!! That's my dream :)

Oh, and I'm sorry if this seems to be a 1-2 conversation between myself and Bryan. I guess it's difficult to find real boxing fans on the Moddb forums :S

I.C.O.N. = Boxing Modification for HL2. Just ironing out the details.

But yea I frequent the larryholmes.com forums. One of my all time fav. boxers and his gym is 10minutes from me. :)

If you captured the essence and style of Raging Bull... That'd just be awsome. Not my favorite movie, but the boxing scenes are incredible. I guess basically what I'm saying is for every blow make lots of persperation fly ;).

PC controls just aren't right for boxing, even the early beat em ups from arcades/consoles in the early nineties fell flat when they tried to be ported to PC.

Forget style, customisation, character, scenery, visuals; if the fight doesn't feel right or isn't fun it can't work, and to make a melee mod at all in HL2 engine would be tough (look at how PVK fared on HL1) but a boxing game? well good luck to ya.

It's easy to write a load of unfeasible ideas, it's hard to even program the simplest fist fight however.
