I don't know if this belongs here... but the majority of people cruise in this forum so...

EGM recently had an article where kids played some old school games. Some of which I remember fondly... And they totally ripped them.

It's really sad to see how little respect these kids have today for the past. I really like history in all forms, and gaming History is just that much cooler. learning about the big console battles of years past that shaped the way we play games today, Thats just something that really appeals to me. If any of you have kids... don't let them become like this.. please. this is really just pathetic. here's a little excerpt for those of you to lazy to check out the article here, where the kids talk about space invaders, one of my favorite games of all time.

Nico: This game needs a super bomb or something.

Tim: This is nothing compared to Grand Theft Auto III, because you can't steal a taxi cab, pick up somebody, then drive into the ocean with him.

Kirk: And you can't pick up an AK-47 and go kill—hey, those aliens on the top row, you use them in EGM for stuff.

god damn CS!!! look what it's done!!!! it's not all CS's fault though. :/

It's just so sad. :(

haha what the kids say is actually pretty funny :D

Niko: Hey—Pong. My parents played this game.

Brian: It takes this whole console just to do Pong?

Kirk: What is this? [Picks up and twists the paddle controller] Am I controlling the volume?

The are obviously so stupid, that they don't relise that if it weren't for these old school games, there would be no Counter Strike or Grand Theft Auto 3, or nearly any game for that matter! I'm not old enough to have played those games when they were the industry standard, I started gaming around 1996/1997 with my Super Nintendo, and then a couple of months later, I had a powerful enough computer to run some games. I remember playing Duke Nukem and Descent 2, they're my old school games! :devious:

I was on consoles till 2000 i believe. Man... PC gaming... it rox0rs your box0rs!!

You still have to give credit to the OG games. Otherwise you can't call yourself a gamer. I'm one of those people that believe you could have College classes on this stuff. There's so much that changed gaming.

Shortcutman... why don't you try any of the older games? or even find out about some of the history. it's crazy man. did you know the original Playstation was being designed for Nintendo? There's so many things that changed gaming in one fell swoop... that you start to appreciate this stuff more. also.. don't tell me you've never played the pinnacle of the mario series!?!? SUPER MARIO BROS. 3!!!! if you haven't... you're just depriving yourself man.

Blaming counter-strike is counter-productive. Blaming the kids ignorance, is bliss.

It's not right to give kids that stuff to begin with. They weren't raised with it, and therefore, will have no appreciation for it. Those of us who grew up with games can appreciate their nostalgia. We've seen how the industry has progressed. They, on the other hand, only know the latest technology. They don't understand the mechanics, and won't have that respect for those games. Sure, they're stupid for not recognizing it. But I can't exactly blame that on them. I blame it on society for progressing so fast :P

Hell, without games like frogger, space invaders, mario, and tetris, where would we get our games from? We have to modify the older ones and get ideas from them to make new ones!
