Recently I thought of a mod for HL2, called HL2: Frontline. Think of it as Battlefield, only in the Half-Life world. A while back there was gonna be a mod like this but it died. That MOD however would only introduce objectves, witch Valve has all ready done, but what Valve hasnt done is make full scale combat. There would be 5 classes for each class. Trooper which specializes in Rifle and Submachine gun weaponry, Sniper which specializes with long range weapons, Medic which can revive dead teamates and heal them, Engineer which can place turrets and hoppers (mines) and repair vehicles , and Rocketeer which specializes in taking down armored vehicles. The wont only be infantry, there would be vehicles for both combine and rebels.

Combine - APC, Helicopter, Tank, Strider

Rebels - Buggy (modified for 3 people), APC, Tank, Speedboat (for beach maps.

And it would include maps large enough for 45 players.

Im not looking for a team this moment, first id like to know if its good enough to become a real mod.

Why not just play BattleField2 instead? After reading that, it seems to just be a port of BattleField2 minus 2 classes (Special Ops and Engineer)

Half-Life 2 maps can be humongous! Not to mention, with support up to, what, 64 players simultaneously, it can definitely be done. There was even a Q&A session before HL2's release on the question whether Half-Life 2 will be able to support Battlefield-sized maps, and they said that it could be done:

And besides, it's common logic that all you need to do is scale down the size of your units, and that allows the maps to feel a lot bigger than they really are.

And nothing wrong with a Half-Life 2 version of Battlefield. That's what they did with Star Wars Battlefront, after all. However, I do recommend that you develop this idea more, seeing as there has to be a unique way that you can draw people in to your mod. Perhaps, sort of like SWB, you can also play as the monsters from Half-Life 2. I'd love to control a Strider (or at least ride one). :D

It's a nice idea, if not a very original one, IMO.

Well I was thinking of letting you be zomebies or antlions on some maps. So I will think of more things for it to attract people to it thanks.

Remember to check out for other info on the source engine: Collective.valve-erc.com

EDIT: oh yeah sounds good btw, i've been looking around and no one is using the source engine to its full potential yet like this.

no, get a team first, then make the mod, then register it, moddb could do wthi the rareity of a finished mod. o0

teamgames are for those who want to blame their losses on others. Play deathmatch you wuss.

Actually, instead of ror's silly statement, do it this way:

1) Finish the concept (game design document).
2) Gather a small team of necessities (mapper, modeler, coder, animator).
3) Make and complete a website (can't register a mod on Moddb without one.
4) Register on Moddb.
5) Make the mod.

Because it's barely playable right out of the box and then following the updates it's apparently worse. I refused to update mine when I started hearing the horror stories.

I thought of something recently. Would it be cool if it was 3rd and 1st person?
