Help! Thread

Alright lads just need your ideas for the moment as I am struggling in a uni assignment..

Anyhow the aim is to come up with a new business that will make money. Anyhow my group decided on cheap wireless technology, so you can duh, link computers togethor without cables and without paying tons..

Now all we need is some where we can apply such a technology.. we were thinking of resturants and like waiters take orders on PDA's which get sent to the kitchen, but we need something better... comon laddies surely someone has a good idea?? If so fire away, i'll give you candy

I like the restraunt idea, but thats not gonna be enough. I know, try to get an area where you have a restraunt with a bunch of computers, so people can play, talk, eat and look at porn.

Use the resturant idea you had, but instead of having the waiters use pda's the menus handed out to the customers would be digital. Waiter could say the soup of the day a la carte, then the customers get the chance to order forthemselves. Since the menu's are digital they could push a button and order a meal with anything they wanted. There could be a list of things like nutritional facts, price... etc. There could be a help button on the menu when you press it it would buzz the waiter to come and help you.

what do you think of that?

the original idea of an internet restraunt instead of cafe would be cool.

just gotta make sure the people dont steal them... but if a resturant went to that extreme to make those menus im sure it would be a pretty fancy resturant

What do you think of a LAN house where all computers have banners ( that appear even when you are playing CS) with buttons like 'ask food' 'buy a Coke' and stuff like that?

They do that at a local restruant and Game place... maybe some of you have heard of it... Dave & Busters. Well besides not using coins of anysort, you have a card you slide in a reader to play the games. Theres also a switch on the side of all the arcade machines that says Order Drink, you flip it and a waitor/waitress comes to the machine and gets you a drink

INtense, JD's idea about the restaurant with digital customer menus is awesome, that would be badass!! Think of the money you would make!

Why not apply that to a bigger picture?
Like at a supermarket.
Everyone gets a disposible or cheap PDA type thing
and they walk around the super market where the shelves are packed with only 1 of everything, they'll jsut say ooh i want one of these, type it into their PDA (or scan it) and it'll go into a huge central type system that will pack the appropriate purchases into a bag as you order and then after ur done purchasing you go to the counter, give the checkout chick ur pda, they'll call up the order adn they you just pay. No more waiting in lines, no more lugging around 3 trolly full of groceries and no more shoplifting.

how about this... for a menu type thingie... u guys have all seen the "print-on" screens, right? the ones that u can put on cards, and displays animation? well, if u could stick a lil baby antennae in all of those menus ur talkin about, u could have all of the menus be completely refreshable, with nice sizzling pics of all of the food items, spinning and everything, or u could even find someway to incorporate a touch screen idea into them, and the people could just have the menu printed onto the table cloth, and then they could push the little buttons on the screen, and use that to order their meal...

Argos uses such a thing but not to an extent they could, instead of taking your order to a person you should go straight upto a shaft lift and collect your item after typing in a unique ID no it prints on your confirmed order (Youd have to use a direct debit or Credit card for this to work obviously) then the shaft opens and you college your item.

Restaurant
Built in mini stations into the hard tables, wouldnt work for every restaurants theme ofcourse, that the user simply uses a GUI system to order there meal and possibly even a credit card slot to pay directly instead of faffing with a receptionist.

BEST IDEA, you'd make alot that way, its almost like those computer controlled pharmacies.

kinda like teh blue tooth idea??

try using radio bands.. it'd have to be UFH as VFH is what is called 'line of sight' so if there was a wall in the way it wouldn't work... only problem is the signal would go for km's upon km's so it's have to be a good enough signal to reach say 20m then the signal would have to peeter out, so it wouldn't interrupt with another user of the same technology. also you could change the frequencies by 1 mhz or so per kit until a certain amount of signals has been setup then start back at the original signal or something like that

only problem is you'd need 2 frequencies, one for output and one for input (from a hand held device to a moniter or cash register or something)
