Go to the forums, register, and ask for help there. I also moved this to Technical Support 10 minutes ago. Its where requests for help like this go. --

Ok so i found out the solution, steam is fucked up in the way it downloads the game updates and shit and so it hangs half way through loading the game while it casualy starts downloading about 700 meg, if you goto properties in the play games menu, then you can turn off automatic download for the games until you have downloaded them induvidually, just so you know, maybe that's whats wrong with yours?? |

Actually no. The way Steam works is that it trickle downloads your games and patches. If you click 'monitor' in the main menu then it shows you what it's downloading. Personally I recommend setting every game you install to 'Keep this game updated automatically' in the Preferences. If it hangs whilst loading the game, it's actually because it's being clever and downloading what you need to play. Give Steam time to get the game (you can check for 'Amount Acquired' in Monitor or in properties for each game). To avoid this problem with HL2, you can PreLoad it. This is pointless if you're getting HL2 on DVD/CSs, but if you're ordering it over Steam then double click Half-Life 2 in your games menu and you can preload all the content and play the game as soon as it's released |

I had the same problem with Day of Defeat on my old 400mhz - and it was actually the problem of the processor not the connection. It worked for me after I disabled the precaching by a console command, I'm not sure if it was something like "lazy_precache 1" or "precache 0", try both. It should work. |
