There are several mods out there that work to recreate the original HL2 that, while I look forward to playing them, I don't think they follow the old concepts as much as they could. I want to start a mod (I'll call it Dark Skies for now) that closely follows the concepts and ideas of the Air Exchange. I want to see a game featuring lots of content cut from HL2, and keeping in mind the effects of the Air Exchange on the sky and mankind. This means taking cut areas that originally had normal blue sky (or black and star speckled)and giving it a dark green, wispy sky instead.I want this mod to be the Black Mesa Source of HL2 Beta. Completely recreate the original HL2 from scratch. While there is a lot there that we don't need to actually make up, there is plenty room for imagination. For instance, what do all those old synth concepts do? How do they attack? What is their weapon? I plan on merging old ideas with our own new ones.Sadly, I can't do all this on my own. I don't know how to map, model, program, etc. But I can draw new concepts for stuff we haven't seen (the Weather Control and parts of the wasteland for example), and I'm pretty good with coming up with ideas. So what this means is that I need a team for all the things I can't do, and to help out with what I can. If you are interested just PM me and tell me what your specialty is along with other projects you've worked on and an example of your work. And please post your thoughts on this thread. Please note that I would like everyone in the team to have at least some say in the creation of the mod.Features I hope for this mod to have are listed below:

  • New models and textures for everything (weapons, enemies, world models, etc).
  • New particle effects - new muzzle flashes for every gun, new explosions for each type of explosive, and maybe some green smoky particles for the sky and Air Exchange.
  • New sound effects for everything
  • Diverse gameplay .
  • Lots of enemies - things that made it to the model and AI stage and things that never made it past concept art.
  • A dark and desolate atmosphere where the maps get darker, and the sun less visible as you get closer to the AirEx.
  • Maps completely built from scratch that have more details and props to make them look less empty and unrealistic. (For example, picture the Air Exchange with more clutter like barrels and crates and Combine industrial equipment).
  • A fun multiplayer
  • An awesome story put together from all the story fragments of the original HL2.

There might be more as I get a team to discuss things with.

Why recreate the old beta of Half life 2 when you can take the half life universe and make whatever you want happened in it ? What happened during the week in stasis in the mid-half life 2 ? What happened to Barney after ep1 ?
Good luck for your project .. I hope you are not alone
