Alright, I'm sure a few of you have heard of this in passing, as Bluewolf72 started this, and I basically took over while he gets the BW network moving. For those of you that don't know, it is very simple, and is on the Half-Life engine (Just Half-Life, not Source), as I'm sure the name implies, so for a quick synopsis...

Players are in the bodies of walking grenades, a few biological, a few mechanical, a few alien in nature, almost the same, with the same concept of killing one another, by killing themselves. You've six grenade types, infinite respawns, sometimes two teams, and a few objectives done only through your own destruction.

Sound like something you're interested in? Then, read on through this short design document :

Into the Arena -

Twisted steel, shattered glass, acidic flesh, and unidentified genetic materials, coalescing for a moment amidst the charred ruins of the arena, while a black camera floats simply overhead. Panning left to right down the hallway, until four metal legs scuttle quickly by with a flash of red light, and the camera begins to hover swiftly to the intersection, and a thunderous explosion sends a shower of green gore across the lense, catapulting a black arachnid beneath the junction. Promptly, a loud shriek echoes and the creature swivels around, dazed, until a blur of pink flesh drops from the shadows above and detonates. Both are incinerated in the fiery mass, and the camera strikes an adjacent steel wall, ricocheting violently to focus on a slowly, silently crawling white caterpillar of metal, and the stage is set for...

Grenade Wars

Gameplay -

Taking the perspective of one of six versions of grenades, the only path towards victory is through self-destruction, and life exists only outside the battlefield, kill them or suffer a meaningless death. Each version has the same statistics in terms of movement, attacking, et cetera, yet all possess a special ability.

Arachnid - A black spider that is able to fire a mass of webbing that will slow down any grenades walking through it, until the Arachnid is destroyed.

Alien Tech- Crafted from alien technology, the glossy blue automaton is almost totally silent, with only a low beep to single its destruct sequence.

Robotic - A small, cylindrical body with a flat red eye and four spindly legs, possessing the ability to deactivate self-destruction before the final cycle.

Alien Bio - Quadruped brown creatures with small black eyes, with the ability to see through perfect darkness, and even locate enemies with greater ability.

Monstrous - Pink fleshed beasts with six legs, these possess many jagged teeth that can clamp themselves to enemy grenades during their destruct sequence.

Cyborg - Carapaced in white armor with a green eye for a parasitic lifeform, it may emit a small shock wave that will knock back enemy grenades.

Teams, when applicable, are divided in simple colors, blue, red, green, and yellow, with all teams allowed all six grenade versions. Games consist of short and swift rounds in four objectives, Assault, Arena, Horde, and Lock, with variations and various score counts.

Assault - Teams must assault an enemy post, symbolized with a flag, and destroy it with multiple detonations, with variations for one team attacking and one team defending.

Arena - Grenades fight one another for sheer kill counts, respawning furiously to explode as swiftly as possible, with variations for team based arena battles.

Horde - A single grenade must begin and destroy all others, transferring them to its team, until the last grenade is destroyed, with variations for dual hordes.

Lock - One grenade is locked from explosion, while other grenades battle one another, the grenade destroying the locked grenade becomes locked, while the locked becomes free.

Notes -

Only the Alien Tech and Alien Bio special abilities are passive, meaning these are always active. The Arachnid special ability is one time use only per life, the mass of webbing will coat walls, ceilings, et cetera, within the radius, and will fade when the Arachnid is slain. Cyborg and Robotic special abilities are subject to time constraints, the Robotic is also subject to during countdown cycles. The Monstrous special ability is allowable at any time with a short rate of fire delay between biting, and must reuse the ability feature to release a target or open their jaws.

Plans are for a few releases over time, focusing on getting what can be done, done, in quick steps. None of the gametypes are particularly difficult, four models are done (though I consider two of them finished), and we currently have both a mapper and coder on hand, and none of the positions are overly hard.

We're searching for people that can do tasks quickly and effectively, without much outside assistance. That is, we need a modeller who can also animate and skin, no sense in doubling jobs, but, we also won't be too picky provided you are ready and able to do work.

The site can be found (not yet updated) at : Grenadewars.bluewolf72.com which is where you can also see the current finished work.

contact me at cacovangor@yahoo.com or PM me through here. Sorry if I don't respond swiftly, my graphics card has recently been fried via the hurricane and a few storms, so I'm not as on top of this as I could otherwise be (typing from a laptop that is not my own).

If you want a small project, but perhaps aren't interested in one concerning self destruction, or want a bit more load, then, look for t he Droid Wars topic posting soon, a less destruction and more gathering oriented gameplay that has great variance, with robots!
