A few days ago I talked to Greg Bear, the author of the blockbuster sci-fi epics 'Eon' and 'Eternity'... amongst many other awesome Sci-fi novels.

I wanted to get his feedback on the chances of his supporting the idea of a Game World based on 'Thistledown' and 'The Way'.

A brief explanation:

Thistledown - is the hollowed out asteroid which Humans come to inhabit, creating 7 chambers of various utility

The Way - The fabulous infinite corridor, created by the same Humans as created Thistledown as a result of the ability to manipulate space-time material.

Well... I was happy to find that he has had this in mind since the mid 90's and would be happy to see it attempted, though would not really become overly involved until such time as he saw some results and the direction it was going... there was also brief mention of potential licensing further down the road...

All of which sounds like music to my ears, as I have always wanted to see a film of Eon and Eternity... better yet, to actually walk around in the 7 chambers and cruise the Way in a flaw ship! Or wander around in City Memory, or shoot-up Jarts! :)

So now I am looking for a few people to form a core group of designers/ modellers/ artists/ landscapers/ animators / multi talented jobbers who would be keen to undertake a lengthy and complex 3D world construction project... one which could develop into an official and licensed product.

But what IS it you may ask. Well it will most probably be based on the Unreal3 technology unless something more awesome comes along, and it would be safe to call it a game at this stage. Though my vision for it is slightly grander and could be called a persistent world (but not really a MMORPG)

(worst case scenario is that it would be created as a MOD of an existing game with new code and all new content. The goal and best case is that it is a licensed engine and released through a large publisher... we shall see... if we can prove our worth to Greg and show him a truly spectacular rendering of his vision... well ...who knows)

First things first though. I'm looking for a core group of only 10 people at this point. Please send your details and portfolio to me at admin(at)tencubed(dot)org . I would be happy if you were either a Greg Bear fanatic, failing that a Sci-fi fan...failing that supremely good at your craft!

Best Wishes

I would recommend a much larger team to undertake the project if your going to be using that kind of technology, 10 people doesn't really cut it for a full game using high poly worlds and characters. You'd need a team of at least 25-30 individuals.

Good point, thanks.

As I say in the post I'm looking for a Core Group of about 10 people who would be able to direct and focus the work of, well... as many people as want to contribute... I thought 10 experienced and skilled co-producers would be about right. That's all I'm looking for at the moment... I'm not recruiting for the entire project as yet.

How about you and your team Shortcutman? :)
You busy ? :)

Pretty much. :carefree:

Trust me, I'm far to busy to join another mod team. :( I've got school, work, my coding projects, and a social life to attend to. :)
