Hello all! It's been a while. For those of you who remember me, I was one Paradigm the Fallen. This site did a lot of good things for me as a modder and indie dev, and ironically my career came full circle to being a member of games press. I've wanted to come back and repay the community for all the good memories and help I received. Except upon arrive back, I've noticed a problem. There doesn't really seem to be any sort of system for easy communication between members of the press and developers on ModDB.

Now I know what your first response is going to be "there's e-mails, there's the PM system", but that's still very limiting. E-mails publicly listed get spammed to hell, and the PM system is a bit like trying to share a note in the middle of a dodgeball game. What I'm suggesting here is something new. Realistically, the ModDB/IndieDB/Desura team has enough work to do, so why not make a page for developers and members of the press can both reach out to each other. A good example of a more simple version of this system can be found here.

I think ModDB could take it a step further though. In addition to letting press members register and display their sites and letting devs list if they're open for contacting, there'd be a reputation system. Forgoing users getting to rate content, the only people who can actually vote on it are the developers themselves, only on the coverage to their games. So if you genuinely feel you were made a fool of by a member of the press, you put a negative against the work they did covering your game. It's public and we know you, the developer made that vote, so it's vastly harder for people to abuse this sort of system. Likewise press members would be able to rate interactions with developers. There could be a set number of attributes so as to avoid someone making something personal, so it'd simply things like "Cooperative", "Supportive", and "Prompt" in positive categories whilst negatives would be like "Lackluster Communication", "Unresponsive" and "Highly Sensitive". The wording would need to be key here, but I think the ability to provide a clear message without things getting mess would be a great help.

I realize such a system wouldn't be made in a day, and would take a while to truly gain the trust it would need to get off the ground. That said, speaking as someone who has now been on both sides of situation, it'd be good to make a bridge between the two parties.
