Game testing Thread

Hello there!

I Wanted to do some game testing, to finance my biggest dream now: Making good quality youtube videos. But i don't know where i can apply myself for testing developer's their game? When i say developer I'm talking about the biggest developers like EA and the smallest developers here on IndieDB. I Wanted to begin for free until i got some experience to be a game tester that is worth your money and time.

So where do i apply for game testing?

Usually if you want to do some game testing, the big AAA places are tougher to get into, as they usually want both black ox and white box testing. Its easier to get into 3rd party tester companies, as most of the time they hire everybody because game testing is not for everyone. I seriously mean that, when I worked in a 3rd party testing company, they were constantly hiring people. Why you ask, because 30% of the people hired would quit by the end of the week and 5% would quit by lunch time of their first day.

Want to know what its really like? Find a game, your favourite game of all time, doesn't matter what it is. Now play the first level for eight hours a day, if you beat the first level, turn the game off, back on and then play it again. If its an open world, limit yourself to say, 200m around the spawn or first town. During your 8 hours of gameplay, find a minimum of 4 problems and write them down in easy to reproduce steps. Repeat daily for 2 weeks, then play the first level again and see if any of the issues still occur.

I also recommend a 3rd party game developer as they get a lot of variety coming in, and since most games are in a fairly polished state you do get to play a bit more then just the basics. You also get to move around from project to project, as they game usually ships in a few months and then your on to a different title. Game testing companies like this are usually in hotbeds of game producers, so you may need to move to a city that makes a lot of games.

If you want to do it on IndieDB, just play a demo, take notes on things you found wrong, ask the developer if it's ok if you submit a list of issues you found (real functionality issues and not personal opinions) and then do so.

TLDR; 3RD Party testing companies usually found in cities where developers reside.

But where do i find a 3rd part game developer?

I also heard you can game test from home.

Most of the time, testing from home for companies is a bit of a scam. You'll have to google 3rd Party Game Testing Companies. Google should know were you live if you use it with any regularity, so it should recommend both jobs and companies in your area.

You say you would like to start beeing a tester like Youtubers are doing. You should setup a Youtube channel, think how you want to make the videos, maybe you can set the focus on specific game genres, find genres that are maybe not covered so much and start exercising. It's all about exercising to speak and make beautiful videos. Its all on the web so you should start thinking what you want.

I want to be more specific to you Ancor, The game is downloaded i have to install it but the game is not working i have download it on the website Moddb it is allready install but it won't work on my computer so what can be the problem why it doesn't work. The programs i downloaded are:

- Freelancer 2.0 version 2015

- MOD manager 1.31

I have install on my computer the freelancer version of 2003 and that one is working as it should I have a HD video card are inside a Radeon HD6450 1GB GDDR 3 For this computer is it a very good card it is from 2013. So what is then the problem why it is not working. Do you have some good advice for me so i can play the game.
