Hey, look, it's his second mod in 5 hours! Sounds kind of a risky situation to join up with you, man. You need to tell us how you intend on sticking with this idea when you gave up on the other one not too long ago -- "He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster." |

This is the cs only with some different guns and some different guns a few different features. Try thinking of unique ideas... |

well, you seem to have a lot of ideas (which is a good thing.) Perhaps it would be better for you to write down all your ideas, then narrow down the one which you think is best. After that, you can further elaborate on the idea and develop it more. For you though, it may be more beneficial to learn a field(no easy task) such as mapping, modelling, skinning, or coding. Then once you have an idea of how modding works, you will know how to develop an idea properly for a mod or game. Good Luck! --

Well, thats what i sorta did... I thought with this while playing CZ fy_poolday 15 vs 16. >< Ive thought up a total of 7 ideas so far, and liked this one best. How I stick with this idea...well me and my cousin will be working on it, i love frag maps (fy's) and wanted to make one similar to those of cs on speed frag maps except with way more features, guns, and maps. -- "Remember...the enemy has only images and illusions, behind which he hides his true motives. ok, so you have a good start, but where do you go from here? The first thing to ask yourself is, "Is my thought well composed and original?" To be honest, I think your getting inspiration from the wrong place. Your mod can be presumed to be a Counter-Strike ripoff, it features the same weapons and similar game types. Many mods will claim that their idea is original, but as far as I can see it is very much counter-strike. Your idea also doesn't seem well composed. You have started by outlining the miniscule details first. You need to find ways that your mod is original (we'll call them the finer points) and elaborate on them. Gameplay for instance is the most significant part of a game/mod and you have failed to outline any specific gameplay type that will set you mod out from the rest. You also need to think, "do any of my ideas clash with each other? How will gameflow affecct the player?" "Able to steal weapons and others from dead bodies. Approx. 5 seconds to examine the body" You specified that you would like your game to be based upon "speed maps" well, in the middle of a speedy game, I hardly have time to stop and analyze a body without being killed. Have you considered if the engine is right for you? Does it support what I need? You specified that you would like to use the quake engine, but based upon that statement alone, I can tell that you are uneducated on engines. The standard quake engine supports very little in terms of models, textures/skins, and netplay. There have been several modified quake engines that you may want to look at be for you decide if it suits you best, Finally, you need to ask "Do I have the skills to tackle a project?" Modding is not a learn as you go type deal. I from experience know that it's best to have the proper modding skills before you take on a project. Modding does not just include modelling, mapping, coding etc. It also includes Public Relation skills. Modding is not a one man type project, it requires people talented in several fields to get the job done. I wish you the best of luck with your mod, it just looks like you need to think things through before attempting this. --

you have to use strategy. make sure the coast is clear before examining the body. Im gathing a team right now, this topic is used as a recruitment/comments topic. Quake is the only decent free engine Ive heard of. Havent seen other standalone games similar to mine... -- "Remember...the enemy has only images and illusions, behind which he hides his true motives. It'd probably be best to use a modified quake engine like Gunrunner was talking about. If you do a google search for "open source game engine" or "free game engine" or something, you'll probably find a few. I had a link to big list. If I can find it, I'll post it here for you to take a look-see. |

Alright, thanks declinsion. Appreciate your help. *EDIT* Taking suggestions for Frag Squad. Got any? *EDIT2* Update. Frag Squad will probably use the Vengeance Quake engine. Well, hey, at least this guy is taking constructive criticism well. And yeah, Declinsion knows his stuff. He's my coder :p Probably one of the best features a game could feature is a superior AI structure for AI, as both allies and enemies. If you can offer that, cs or no, you'd really have something good going there. |

Ah, thanks for the suggestions. And yes, I welcome criticism almost always, unless its like directly at me personally, if you get what I mean. >< Declinsion, talked with him over AIM. I take it you work with him on Nepranexos? -- "Remember...the enemy has only images and illusions, behind which he hides his true motives.
