Hi, I'm MonkOnFire,

Overview

Fall of Saigon is a Vietnam War modification for Half-Life 2. Get ready to step into the shoes of either soldiers of the North Vietnamese Army, or US Troops, battling through the forests of Vietnam. Fall of Saigon will feature realistic maps and gameplay, with historically correct weapons and vehicles. This means no sniper rifles and no advanced technology. Fall of Saigon is about close combat fighting through the forests, strategic and team-orientated maps, and huge firefights. Grab your rifle (and bayonet!) and get ready for hell…

Features

:: Teams – Play as either a US Marine or fight as a member of the Vietcong defending the homeland.

:: Game Modes - There will be many different game modes in Fall of Saigon, with unique objectives and scenarios. This can include capturing certain areas of the map, defending certain areas for a certain amount of time, crossing bridges or roads, or simply eliminating the opposing team.

:: Maps – Fall Of Saigon will feature huge, 64-player maps where every area will be a dangerous warzone. This means travelling along the frontline in APCs or destroying enemy artillery with your tank will be of great strategic importance to each team.

:: Points - Points are awarded by achieving certain objectives or completing certain tasks. For a kill you get more points depending on how higher-ranking the troop you kill is. The highest-ranking player on the team that wins can also give more points to the one player on their team who they believe showed the most merit and determination, and helped their team the most.

:: Revolutionary Ranking System – Fall of Saigon will feature a unique, revolutionary ranking system, where the higher rank you are, the more authority of your team you have. Therefore, different ranks can call in air strikes, vehicles, and capture buildings.

:: Communication – Fall of Saigon will feature an easy communication feature where players can directly communicate with certain members. For instance, if some US Troops on the frontline are taking heavy fire, they can easily and quickly call in a player with an M48 tank to help break up the assault.

:: AI Support – Fall of Saigon will also feature AI jet fighter support. This means high-ranking North Vietnamese officers can call in airstrikes from AI MiGs to break up fighting in the jungles.

No offense, but it sounds almost exactly like BF:V, aside from the ranking thing.

None taken! I think it is easy to class certain mods as clones of other games simply because they have similar gameplay, but once work starts, we are fully comitted to making a new style of gameplay for the Vietnam War. So thankyou for your comment, I will bear it in mind and make sure we don't just improve BF:V, we have something nearing unique.

That sounds a hell of alot like BF:V, and i love that game! The main problem i can see here is that if more people are gona relate your mod to a game they have played in the past, then the less popular its gona be. I mean whats the point in waiting several hours to download a mod that has the same features as professionally made game? Sure the mod is free, but with a game you pay for the quality.

Anyone who has played BF:V like myself, would instantly relate this to game's quick communication system.

Do i have a point here... ?

Yep, again you highlighted the point that Cyanide said. I agree, it will be hard to create a Vietnam War mod which will not be compared to BF:V, but we'll see how it goes... :\

Personally the attempts at "we'll make it different" in Counter-Terrorism, WW2, Vietnam, Desert Storm, et cetera, are not very invoking of anything. Everyone always says that it will be different in respects, they try for the most realistic approaches, but it all does become the same in many manners, and often where the community first was, is where the community now falls.

Might I suggest investing vastly more time into creating that definitive difference, or scrapping the Vietnam influence.

In other words, make it different and notable to us, and telling us it will be different and notable does nothing as everyone has already said that, I assure you.

I must disagree with you. You cannot judge my mod on what I have posted above, because most of the details of gameplay are no where near finalized yet.

I also find your views on steriotyping mods because they have similar concepts to past mods quite ignorant as every mod brings something new to the table.

Well, I might actually suggest that you base it on events that never actually happened in 'Nam.

Take Hearts of Evil for example.Prime meat for taking a real era and creating something unreal (yet fun) at the same time.

Monk, I've nothing else to base it on, what would you expect me to do, don't release anything unless you want it to be considered, release nothing more than that and that is all that can be considered. And, we only call stereotyping when we are the victims of it, unless you presume to tell me that you've played every single game in the known world because you believe it could offer something different, say you don't like RTS', what makes you believe that one out of the past hundred released wasn't the one that would change your mind? Why? Because we place labels, make assumptions, and stereotype when necessary, in this case, it is a Vietnam game, with ties towards BF:V, why should I be bothered to pick up your game?

I guess I should note it more clearly, the fact is I don't care what you do, I gave you advice, if you want to get people interested, stop telling me that I'm ignorant cause your mod will "bring something new to the table" and tell me wtf that something new is, that should be clear enough...

Mar 25 2005 Anchor

That advice was that I should completely change the whold concept of the mod just because it has been made before. I dont find that very useful so I choose not to take your advice. You have not given me any advie on how to keep the Vietnam war theme and add unique factors to it, which I would find useful.

Okay whatever, if everyone is a skeptic then this mod will not go far, but if you don't give it a chance you will never know. I'm not some 9 year old spamming forums with "join my resident eveil mod!!one111"", I have been professional in my pitch. So please just leave it at that. Of course if you have any suggestions to make it unqiue then please tell me in the way that Cyanide is helping, please do not just tell me that it is unoriginal.

Thanks
