As promised in the Grenade Wars topic (go there if you haven't), here it is, a lighthearted mod about Robots with emphasis on the side of gathering resources as opposed to combat, though that is of course included. This will be done on the Half-life engine (not Source), and won't require a large team, a few weapons, a player model (red and blue skins), a few maps, and while there is little evolution, the fact is, few games provide such variance in such simplicity, you can play the same map rotation for CS, but, everything is static, not here.

So, for the short write up :

The Red Wastes -

On the great Gear, a flat iron star with twelve squared teeth, the legacy A.I. landed 1.0.8.4B2 versions ago, to create robotic beings, the Droids. As the foundations of modern life began, Droids known as Salvagers ventured the ferrite rust deserts, taking with them scrap iron from the A.I.'s wreckage and ancient dwellings, to craft new robotic chassis and power outlets. Still, it is necessary for Salvagers to press on through the harsh sandstorms to retrieve feasible metal from far away mining locations, many return paint worn and downgraded.

However, in the cutthroat corporate business of iron hording, Droids adopt mining provisions to incapacitate Salvager brethren from rival companies, to mechanically chuckle as memory chips are phased back towards cargo freighters. Droid cities have begun titling these small conflicts the...

Droid Wars

Droids -

Players are put into control of a Droid Salvager, standard issue models with implements used for extracting ore and scrap from the wastes, or removing enemy Salvagers from the fields. Standard are Mining Drills as well as a Utility Module Pack, which may be configured into various bots on the field.

Melee -

Mining Drill - Closed ranged Drill used primarily for breaking through hardened rust stones in a matter of seconds, as well it is useful for perforating Droid chassis with constant power.

Mecha-Pick - Useful in close range combat, the Mecha-Pick is a very slow but powerful weapon that can break small rocks and Droids in a singular blow, but requires manual resetting functions on the bulky and stiff mechanisms that drive it.

Service Wrench - Rarely useful in combat or the removal of ore and scrap, the Service Wrench is mostly effective due to its ability to repair friendly Droid and UMP chassis.

Ranged - (All ammunition is unlimited, but, reload times become more of a factor)

Laser Drill - Able to fire laser streams for extended periods of time with a recharging battery and charge function, the Laser Drill is not the most effective weapon versus other Droids, but is helpful in removing scrap.

Salvage Cannon - Launching cylindrical containers of a pressurized cleaner, the cannon is able to dissolve away the iron oxide sands of the wastes, as well as the alloys in chassis, perfect for uncovering ore and scrap, or circuit boards.

Charge Layer - Allows the Droid to place down explosive charges used first and foremost for gaining scrap and ore, which are remotely denoted by the Droid, with a maximum of four in play, which will quickly eliminate any obstructions towards new metal.

UMP -

Spider UMP - The Spider is a semi-active seeker of enemy Droids, any venturing nearby will be chased in close proximity while being assailed by its mounted Laser Drill.

Smart Drill UMP - Utilizing the Spider chassis, Smart Drills locate ore within line of sight and begin swiftly drilling it out, leaving it on the desert floor to be picked up by any Droids.

Station Wrench UMP - Creates a small station which will automatically begin repairing nearby ally Droids and UMPs, including other station wrenches.

Gameplay -

All Droids are competing over Scrap Metal and Iron Ore, buried within stone walls, taken right from the sand, or once holding rocks are taken. Those found in stone walls are difficult to retrieve but are considered three scrap, and will respawn very slowly over the course of the round in select areas. Scrap on the sand to be picked up counts only as one and is merely starting scrap, it will never respawn. Small boulders and rocks which must be broken apart for the one count scrap contained inside, these respawn at a decent rate in designated areas.

Droids may also steal scrap from enemy storage bins before these are loaded onto transport shuttles, and hopefully return it to their base. Bins are capable of holding ten scrap before being automatically loaded. Droids will respawn within waves back at their transport shuttle, automatically loaded out and ready for play once more.

Droid Wars - Standard as above.

Last Haul - No ore respawns and scrap is cleared from the map, only larger ore may be found.

Massive Bin - Bins do not reset after any amount of scrap is placed within.

Golden Scrap - Only one "golden" scrap on the surface hidden away, counting for five scrap, when it is claimed, another spawns. Golden scrap will always be taken first from bins if available. (Note, may be used alongside the Massive Bin gameplay mode)

That is about it for now, there isn't a site yet, no team, haven't got around to that, especially now that I am without a computer. Looking for any positions, there is a light work load, just need people that can do things well and fast, nothing special. If you're looking for a modification to throw your name on, this would be a fine start.

If you want even more to do, then please check out Grenade Wars, which is all about self destruction, in another topic here.
