This may be old news to some, but I think this might as well be made aware on these forums, since no one has made a thread or news post about it (or a single post, for that matter).

Gamespot.com wrote:
id Software and Activision, Inc. (Nasdaq: ATVI) will unleash an all-new assault on humanity with DOOM 3: Resurrection of Evil, the official expansion pack to the fastest selling PC first- person action game ever in the U.S., according to NPD Techworld. Co-developed by Nerve Software and id Software, DOOM 3: Resurrection of Evil continues the terrifying and intense action of the already classic DOOM 3, which Maxim and Computer Gaming World awarded "five out of five stars" and the Associated Press called "one of the scariest games ever made." Through the discovery of a timeless and evil artifact you now hold the powers of Hell in your hands, and the demons have come to hunt you down and take it back. Following the events of DOOM 3 and featuring new locations, characters and weapons, including the return of the double-barreled shotgun, DOOM 3: Resurrection of Evil expands the terrifying action that fans and critics have been raving about. The title will require the full retail version of DOOM 3, and has not yet been rated by the ESRB.

"DOOM 3 defines first-person cinematic action, and the expansion pack continues right where we left off - with a terrifying atmosphere, a new story and one of the most classic weapons ever, the double-barreled shotgun," states Todd Hollenshead, CEO, id Software. "Now that fans have survived the horrors and edge of your seat action of the original, DOOM 3: Resurrection of Evil delivers players deeper into the heart of the UAC to uncover new secrets and technology used to destroy the demon force that's Hell-bent on destroying you."

Building on the most advanced game engine ever created, DOOM 3: Resurrection of Evil continues the frightening and gripping single player experience of the blockbuster original. The title also features even more multiplayer action with support for up to eight players in all new maps.

Doom 3: Resurrection of Evil, as well as Doom 3 itself, are both slated to be released on the Xbox March 2005.

id did state many times that they were focusing on the single player game, and that the multiplayer was not the priority. Plus too many people playing Doom 3 multiplayer would lag a heck load of computers that are just barely making the specs.

Exactly. Not to mention, they made closed-in areas. I'm not saying the MP is entirely awful, but sometimes, 8 players can be enough, especially with Doom 3's tech specs.

have a read:
Gameinformer.com

"Also slated to appear is the “Grabber,” a special gun that lets you suck up objects and then shoot them out as projectiles. Almost anything that you can see can be sucked up including enemies and projectiles they throw at you, creating some pretty unique and strategic opportunities to use your environment as a weapon."

they could've at least given it a better name...

you guys should head over to the halflife2.net forums more often, they get all the news first, and people make some real funny movies

Wow, sounds good. Any info on the PC release date?

And about the multiplayer.. 4 players is actually enough for a good game.

So?

It adds so much to the gameplay, I bet it will become a standand to have some kind of physics weapon.

Besides, hl2 stole lots of ideas.

I really hope they add coop support, but thats pretty doubtful. It baffles me as to why very few developers add this in anymore. The last AAA title that I can think of that had coop mode built-in was NOLF2.

ID Software of all companies should still have this as a standard in their games. I used to have great respect for ID, but they haven't put out anything that amazed me since Quake 2. They need to get Romero back.

id bit the dust with doom 3. pretty, but no substance. i still cant believe john carmack thinks plots are nothing to gamers in a game. he said that games are akin to porn movies in that respect, noone cares about the storyline.

The Doom1 and Quake had no real plot, and they were great. Having a good plot isn't essential for a good FPS.

Its better to have a non-existent plot, then a poorly written one like in Doom 3.

Erm, it probably won't have coop. That'd defeat the point of getting the xbox version.

Dec 23 2004 Anchor

Doom 3 will have coop on Xbox Live. It was announced not too long ago.

I wish Call of Duty: Finest Hour did. We rented the game yesterday, and I felt discouraged when they didn't, Lol.

It's been known that the xbox version would have coop ever since it was officially announced, iirc.
