Hi All,

After over a year of hard work, sweat and tears, Cyber Pest Control has finally gone live for iOS devices and coming soon for Android devices. The game focuses on defending farmers crops from the hungry hoards of pests that frequent each level. You take control of a Robot from the Cyber Pest Control Agency, and with the Robots unique abilities wage war on the ravenous beasties.

We utilise the box modelling technique in blender to keep the models low poly and all textures are hand painted in Gimp. Each character is rigged and animated within blender itself with all assets placed on atlases to reduce draw calls were possible. Unity is the game engine of choice for this project.

Characters start of as a cube in Blender. We add a couple of sub divisions "ctrl+ 2" and apply the subsurf modifier. We then select half the mesh in front view "1" on the num pad and select face select mode and then box select "b". We select half the mesh and then delete the right half side of the model "x" delete faces. The mirror modifier is then applied to the mesh with clipping enabled. We then transform the mesh "g" "r" "s" in vertex select mode with proportional editing set to connected "alt+o".

Once the model is complete, it is UV unwrapped in blender with AO baked to a texture. We also export the UV layout to gimp. The AO and UV layout are placed on different layers in gimp. The AO serves as a starting point for shadows on the model. The model is then rigged and animated in the action editor. We have three animations, walk cycle, attack and idle.
