Hello all!
I've tried searching for answers on google and several other forums about this problem but couldnt find a clue. I'm quite experienced with Hammer and compiling (as in I know how to fix most problems , etc). But this problem got me wondered and stranded.

Here's the situation:
I compile my map and everything in compile goes fine. No errors, etc.
So I start up CS:S and in console I try to load my map : map cs_testmap
Then it crashes back to Windows (XP btw) and says that HL2 has made an unexpected error, bla bla.
Then I tried starting up parts of my map by using the Cordon Tool to see where the problem lies. I divided my map into three sections and I tested all of them. It all works fine!! Good compile and good start up.

This left me wondering that maybe my map is too big? And perhaps there is a maximum of brushes you can use? And how can check this in the compile log?
If this is not the case, could anyone else tell me a solution or have suggestions?
(perhaps optimisation with areaportals will work?)

I hope to get going with my map soon!

try opening CS or HL2 and starting a game, when you get in, then leave and try again. do you find it easier, to compile directly into the game, (make sure that 'do not run the game after compile' is not ticked.

Yeps, I tested that aswell. I created a server and loaded my map --> still a crash
Compiling directly into the game is something I havent tried yet (but my guess it will phail aswell)

My first thought is that I perhaps exceeded the limit of maximum brushes you can have in the map. But i dont know the maximum limit (around 8000 I believe) exactly.
I mean, going into the part I made when the crash occured by using Cordon Tools gives me no problems starting it up. Even the compile log shows no real threatening errors like leaks or something else that might be responsible for the crash.

( I will later on post the compile log if you guys really want to, but its the same log I had before the crash and then the map loaded and worked just fine....so quite useless to upload it imo)

if theres parts that work and others that dont, remove all point entites in the vis groups, apart from your spawns. then if it works, try to think which ones could be causing the problrm. similar experiances ive had are usually due to the point entities. Post your compile log.
