I found the best thing to do is to get some sounds out there see if people like them as a tester.
Then if theres no contact, pick a game and get started on a soundtrack and begin offering it to development groups, pick some mods you like the look of and/or have ideas about and ask them if they need a musician.
You have to sort of put yourself out there a little bit on moddb to get anywhere, good luck
