Anyone here have any good suggestions of a fantasy novel that I can read? Please dont include LOTR, Harry Potter or all the Eddings book cause I read them all. I want a book that isn't so cliched anymore, y'know princesses and kings and knights in shining armour crap. --

Um, Robert Jordan's "The Wheel of Time" series? Those were some really good books. And it doesn't really follow the clichés of fantasy novels, either. -- "He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster." |

Icewind Dale and the DnD series. I thought those were pretty sweet, I think Salvatore is an awesome writer. Also the Warhammer Fantasy Gotrek & Felix novels are pretty awesome. --

Anything by Terry Pratchett. They don't exactly fit your specifics, but they're great books none the less. |

I was gonna suggest Pratchett. Great if you need a laugh - start early in the series though since the later ones are getting far darker and make far better reading if you know what comes before. |

Ah, yes, Tom Clancy. You should definitely try Executive Orders by him. It's basically what Tom Clancy would do as president -- "He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster." |

i read these two books called Mirror Wakes And Mirror Dreams(i think thats what they were called) its about a land that is split by a...force "The dreamers of Earth dream the Kingdoms of the Void; both the pleasant realms linked to Haven, and the nightmare realm of Nightkeep. But the Dreamers walk the Kingdoms unaware, and vanish into wakefulness with each passing morning. Until Renna, that is, who's been in a coma for the last ten years..." It's a really good book and i jsut found out 2 seconds ago....written by a 15 year old!(obviously edited hardcore by adults though) both books are really good for a quick read thats easily accessible basically our dreams are keeping them alive and its a battle between nightmares and dreams its cool Edited by: embers. |

Thanks a lot. I'll try to find these books and probably read some over the school holidays if I can, in between studying for the exams and doing some holiday homework. Seeing as some of you are interested in the same genre, I highly recommend that, if you have the time that is, you read 'The Crucible' trilogy by Sara Douglass. It is the BEST fantasy book I've read since LOTR, and it's probably even better imo. Edited by: Ice_Cream_Man --
