All menus are blank... HL2 mods display no text Thread

Very impressed with this site, and have had great pleasure hunting and downloading select mods for HL2, et al.

Mods for other games work just fine, but SOME mods under Half Life 2 have empty menus. For instance, "options" is a grey window with a few radio buttons. Nothing labelled. Cannot load, save or configure the troubled mod from any menu.

Eclipse, Neo Tokyo and Minerva suffer the fate I've described above.

Other mods (for other games, e.g. Doom 3, Amnesia) are fine. I know my way around modding, but as I am not familiar with the Desura packaging, although I'm sure I've got the mechanics down (click to play, not much to ponder there but perhaps an ini file I could crack open?). I went through about a third of the posts in this forum, but I convinced myself that my issue is unique. Or it's so obvious I should have spotted it by now... like I said I'm new to the Desura mechanism for mod integration.
In any case, I could use your collective help. Any ideas? Thanks.

Ive been having the same problem. But with videos. The videos (where they are sopposed to play) are just black.
